Hello gamers! What games have you completed lately? Any recommendations? 😃
Even though quite a while passed since I wrote my review for Life is Strange which is a game that I absolutely loved, back then I promised to return with another game created by the same developers but which might surprise some of you with its details.
What though there is already released Life is Strange 2, and Life is Strange: True Colors which are basically part of the same series of games even though they don't have the same characters, I still haven't put my hands on these two so that's why the review for the rest of the series will have to wait for a while. Anyway, the developers of Life is Strange, did create a game though that I really wanted to play since it was first announced, and which is also the one I will write a review for in this beautiful day of June, being entitled Tell Me Why.
I bet the name of the game is both a little bit common but also interesting enough to want to find out the reason of the question and what the answers for it are, so do keep in mind that it's a pretty powerful game that comes with a full bag of emotions from many fields that you won't even think about.
Anyway, as some of you might now, June is known as the Pride Month that is more or less celebrated everywhere, both coming as a reason to be happy for those who support this community, but also to annoy some of the others who can't accept that love is for everyone and not just for the opposite gender.
I'll try to stay away from debating this subject too much tho, because there will always be pros and cons and I don't intend in turning my game review in that kind of discussion, but the game picked for today's review is also not randomly chosen because it does present love in all its forms without being offensive or vulgar in any way.
To start with the beginning and make the first steps in understanding what's everything about, the game presents the two main characters who are Alyson and Tyler. Alyson and Tyler, not only that are siblings but actually twins and yes, Tyler is a transgender even though they both were born girls.
I know this is a pretty straightforward start but I guess it's better to know all these aspects from the beginning when you can decide whether you still want to play the game or not, instead of being shared at the end of the game and feel like you shouldn't have been playing it.
However, both Alyson and Tyler will meet each other after 10 years since their mom died and they lived apart, which even though at the beginning it might seem like an uncomfortable reunite, they will get closer to how they used to be when they were kids and become stronger than ever while trying to solve the mystery of the game which is also the answer to "Tell me why!"
While they are both on the ferry on the way back to Alyson's house, this one will share with Tyler a small gift from her adoptive father who even though is her best friend, Tyler seems like it has some personal reasons not to like him or accept a present coming from this one.
Tell Me Why is going to be a game full of ups and downs, full of twists and puzzles needed to be solved on the way to figuring out what truly happened with their mother and what she was going through while they were kids because there's not much to remember about so the need of talking with various persons who met their mother will become essential to assemble the puzzle and solve the mystery.
Even though the game is an episodic one which is formed from three chapters only, each of them will share lots of valuable details and make you feel like a detective while looking for the right path to follow on the way to get some answers for the twins who want to finally start living a normal life without getting the same questions in their heads after so long.
Being a game developed by DontNod, the graphics are kept on the same line with these from the Life is Strange series, but a thing that I really appreciated is that the developers didn't use the name of Life is Strange just to catch the attention of the fans, because they worked on Tell Me Why many years in a row, coming with a not less stunning story and game.
If you played Life is Strange, you might be aware of the thing that over there we can talk about a minimum of attention shown to the people from LGBTQ community but which the developers described as a quick test to see how people react to the game because they didn't want to create a game with too many details from this community that could break people's experience playing it.
So for quite a while, not only that they discussed with the fans of the series, but also with doctors, psychologists and even people from the LGBTQ community to find out what they feel, how they usually think, how they share their emotions, what they are going through and so on, creating Tell Me Why with no borders and with the hope that will make more people understand this category which is going daily through various fights for their rights that come with lots of abuses and mocking.
Conclusions 🤔
Tell Me Why is amongst the best episodic games you can experience out there that not only it comes with an interesting story behind its name which can end in two different ways depending on your choices but also with a full bag of emotions, situations and challenges for, basically, any person out there who's willing to play it.
The game presents one of the strongest lessons someone can learn, namely that past can't be changed but it's our missing to understand it and learn to live with its consequences. In plus, everything what's done, is done for a reason and not everyone manages to understand this aspect, so it's a great way to learn it while playing a game that gives you a different mood than facing the rough truth in other circumstances.
If I have to say in a short form whether Tell Me Why is worth being played or not, then it's definitely a YES! However, its gripping mystery and great performances are what are going to make you stay and enjoy every minute spent in the game.
Did you play it? 😁
Even though it's one of the great games that are not so known as they deserve to, I'm sure our Hive community of gamers has some members who at least heard of this one, so I can't wait to hear your thoughts of the game or what your experience was because I'd personally replay it anytime with the same excitement!
In case you haven't played the game but it stirs your interest, there is one IMPORTANT NOTE that I should mention here, namely, that all three episodes are FREE to play in June as a celebration for the Pride month, so no matter if you support the community or not, you can enjoy the game at no cost if you want to.

I’m a bit finnicky when transgender stuff is in games just because I find the games that do it mostly do it just because they ca. And it doesn’t really add anything to the story. But I have respect for these developers as they never tried to hide it in the promotion of their game.
Don’t mind my grammar, I’m on mobile right now xD
I can totally understand you but they sort of based this story on how a mother fights with herself to learn how to grow up a transgender kid so they definitely added a little bit more in this game other than these from the Life is Strange series.
Anyway, just like you said, they never hide that from their announcements or trailers so it's a good thing that people can see what's everything about and decide whether they would play it or not ☺️
That’s why I don’t mind games like this. What I hate is when a game blindsides you with something like this ( a character being trans) and just doesn’t do anything with it.
I’m the same way with anything involving relationships and that too in games. I think that if the story isn’t affected by it, or the story can be told the same way without something’s inclusion, then it shouldn’t be included.
I can agree with that. But perhaps is the new way of getting the community's stories more involved in games too. I do expect to see games being released with the possibility to pick your orientation in terms of relationships pretty soon, lol.
