New 'Cozy' Horror Game Has Serious Tim Burton Vibes

During the PlayStation State of Play on February 12, 2025, developer MoonHood and publisher Fast Travel Games revealed the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming "cozy horror" game The Midnight Walk. Blending surrealism akin to that of filmmaker Tim Burton with the claymation esthetics of Laika Studios, The Midnight Walk looks to whisk players away to a fantastical realm of darkness on PC, PC VR, PS5, and PSVR2.

First announced in September 2024, The Midnight Walk features handcrafted clay figures and landscapes that have been meticulously scanned and rendered into a 3D video game environment. The upcoming title utilizes stop-motion animation to bring its clay creations to life in an eye-catching way, similar to the narrative game Harold Halibut. Courtesy of the new gameplay trailer, audiences can now get a closer look at the otherworldly experience coming in The Midnight Walk. In the gameplay trailer for The Midnight Walk, viewers are treated to a detailed look at the main characters of the game, as well as some of the unsettling foes that players will face along the way. Players will set off on an eerie first-person journey as The Burnt One and must team up with the lost lantern creature Potboy, who will light the way through the conflicting world of wonder and horror. While playing as The Burnt One, players must outsmart horrific monsters and protect the precious flame of Potboy. The Midnight Walk features five tales of fire and darkness, an eclectic cast of characters, artistic claymation landscapes, and optional VR gameplay support for PlayStation 5 and PC.
