If you're a friend of mine you'll know how much I love this console. You'll know that I was literally having dreams about it because of how much I liked my first experiences with it at my cousin's home (Lmao, it's kinda funny, dreaming about a console is kinda childish, maybe?)
The PS5 is powerful (Not as much as the Series X, but still), it's slick, it's got the best UX/UI in any system I've ever used, and well, it doesn't have that many games but the one it does have are pretty great.
Well, now I can finally say: I own one.
It cost me something dear and near to me, but it was completely worth it.
- Cost
PS5s go for about $700-800 here in Brazil, it's a ridiculous amount. There's no way I'd ever pay that much for a console. So how did I get it?
A trade.
I traded my PC for it.
Before you call me crazy, there are a couple of good reasons:
1 - My PC cost less than the PS5. I build that PC for around $350, it had an i7 6700, RTX 2060 and 16GBs of RAM.
2 - I got a laptop with Hive money. It's not a particularly powerful laptop but it's enough for me to work and do basic stuff with.
3 - My friend offered me his borked gaming laptop. It's got a broken screen, broken W key, but that doesn't matter really. I'm going to be using it as a desktop PC. Since it has a Ryzen CPU and a decent enough RTX 2050, I'm happy.
- I Freaking Love This Console
Now that that's out of the way, let me just say I am very impressed with what Sony pulled off here, it's a great system and the games I've been playing are pretty good.
I've gotten a USB-C external hard drive for my PS4 games and they run fine there.
The internal SSD is quite small, only 667gbs usable out of the box so having some external storage is better than having none, eventually I'll also buy a Gen4 NVMe SSD to plug into the PS5 and have more space available, but for now, those 667gbs are holding up quite fine.
- Oof
This particular system isn't perfect. It came with the left side panel broken (slightly, but still) and the USB 3.0 ports on the back are absolutely mangled - that's why I got a USB-C hard drive instead of a normal USB-A one.
But since I don't plan on using any accessories other than P2 headphones on my controller, this is absolutely fine.
The front USB-A port cannot be used for drives, only simple USB sticks and such other accessories that don't require USB 3.0 since it's a 2.0 port. I use it to charge my controller with a 2m long cable I bought at the local convenience store lol.
It was also quite dirty on the inside, luckily opening it up is the simplest thing ever. Just pop off the side panels, use a Torx T8H screw to get the fan out and clean it up. I cleaned the fans and the power supply, now it's running a lot cooler (at least from what I can feel with my hands). This likely wasn't all that necessary but it's better to be safe than sorry.
- Games, games, games!
Yakuza 0 - Yes, I beat it again. This time in true 4K in my living room, except for the final part where I played in my room.
Bloodstained - I own this on PC and it runs on my laptop, but playing it through the PS5 with PS Plus gives me some extra items in-game and lets me play in the big ass TV in the living room, so that's a bonus.
EA FC 24 - I've been playing this a lot lately with two friends of mine, one that comes here whenever he has a chance and another one from the US. I get my ass handed to me by the nearby friend but I also beat my American friend's ass so it's balanced. Eventually I'll get good enough again to also beat my local friend.
GTA SA DE - This looks god awful and it's full of bugs. I'm still having fun though hahaha.
Zenless Zone Zero - The newest Hoyoverse game comes to console, exclusively to PS5 (but it's also on PC and mobile). Thank you @stk-g for making me stick to this game, because I'm absolutely addicted now. It's gacha, it's full of sexy and cute anime ladies and boys but the gameplay is where it's at. It's freaking amazing. The combat feels like Devil May Cry, but even more fluid and faster. I highly recommend this one to y'all.
- A Couple Things I've Noticed
Downloads are ridiculously fast, specially in the internal SSD. I don't know exactly why but when compared to Steam on my laptop, also downloading to an SSD, it just goes by a lot faster.
No quick resume, this one was kinda disappointing, I for some reason thought that the PS5 would also have a similar feature as the one on the Xbox, but overall it's not too terrible, this is how I played stuff on the PS4 anyways, and you can have an app and a game open at the same time, with the app sitting on the background.
That's pretty much it. I'm very happy with this system and I think it's the one I'll keep until the end of this generation. I don't have too many games purchased for it yet, and it will take me a while to get what I want since it's all digital and the prices are way too high here.
But I'm still having tons of fun and if you're wondering wether you should get one, I highly suggest you do. If you're stuck between this and an Xbox, there are great reasons to get both, the Xbox is also a wonderful console and I was lucky enough to own a Series S, which while it isn't as powerful, it's still a little beast for its low low price.
Just make sure to also have a PC haha.
Thanks for reading! And thanks to @daltono as well for being my 'Playstation buddy' through all of this.
It looks like that PS5 was treated like shit haha, but if it works, it works.
It was treated pretty poorly, but it's in good hands now. 100% clean and working.
And yeah! ZZZ is awesome.
My dream game, glad to see yours coming through and already set up. Smart move you made there trading and switching your old console for this
