I'm here with the second episode of the Frostpunk series, and I want to make this game one of the legendary series on my blog, just like the first game. Unfortunately, unlike the first game, you can't change the names of the characters in the game, so I won't be able to give your names to the characters in the game. Maybe they'll change that in the future and I can think about starting this series again, and then I'll try to play it the opposite of the way I'm doing it now.
To summarize the first episode, we managed to keep the travelers alive, we stocked them with enough food to survive the storm, we built an oil infrastructure, and we learned the basics of the game. At the end of the episode, we were greeted with such a cinematic. For those who don't know, the screen reads “We survived the end of the world” in Turkish.
One of my favorite things about this game is that it really immerses you in the story and you really feel like you're running a city, and then those words make a lot more sense. For example, right now it says “people want to dream of the future... but does everyone dream of the same future?” That's right, you, your mom, your dad, you all have different dreams. Your neighbors have different dreams. People living in the city all dream of a different future. Our aim is to unite them under the same goal: the survival of the city.
We have finished the introduction. Chapter one: The Coal Era is Over
In the first part, our first goal is to reach the coal resources and reactivate the generator. And then to build housing for people. Manpower is very important in Frostpunk 2, so if they are sick, it means they can't work, and if they can't work, you can't produce resources.
First I took a look at the city because I wanted to build a strategy rather than just building things directly. After all, this city won't stay the same as it was when the game started, we will be constantly expanding and it would be difficult to plan a city in the meantime, so it makes more sense to do it from the beginning. Then I started the frost conquest towards the coalfields.
Now let's talk about some basic things about the game. At the bottom of the screen you can see the communities. They are currently divided into 3 groups, the Indomitable, the Inhabitants of the Frozen Lands and the New Londoners. They all have an ideology. The Dwellers of the Frozen Lands are more traditionalist, the New Londoners are more innovative and the Yilmaz are the more radical version of the New Londoners. In other words, they don't care about traditions at all and they are always looking for innovations. In the middle of all this you see a sphere, right now there is a black liquid in it, it shows the tension of the city. If this orb turns black, you know that the people are on the verge of revolt and at any moment your leadership can end.
Now I need to start developing the city. I need materials, pre-produced materials and food. Otherwise my stocks may run out.
Back to the basics, at the top of the screen you can see 5 different parameters. When they turn brightly colored, you can tell that there is a problem with that parameter in the city. The first one is food, I don't have a food problem at the moment. The second one is disease, as you can see, it's not brightly colored but there are shadows moving around it, so it might become a problem soon. In the middle is cold, there are not enough houses for everyone in the city right now and the generator is not working so cold is the most serious problem right now. The 4th parameter is misery. This is an interesting parameter because the buildings you build in the city can also increase misery. A coal mine or a factory can increase misery because the fumes will poison the city. The 5th parameter is crime. If you can't regulate the city with laws, people will steal and murder and this means that your leadership doesn't matter.
In Frostpunk 2, to build a building you just had to research it, in Frostpunk 2 to build a building you need to have an empty building slot in an area. For example, now I'm going to expand this housing zone because I need to do research as soon as possible and I can build the research center in the housing zone.
We have activated the generator but there are not many coal resources in the city. We will improve our digging methods to use these resources effectively, but the communities in the city have different opinions about this. Whose idea are we going to implement?
With the generator activated, people are filled with hope and a newborn child is named Lily May. They want us to bless this child as their leader. I hope you have a long life and live in peace, my dear child!
Now we have built a research center and we have to make a decision about coal mines. The Yilmazes and New Londoners argue that we should build an explosive coal mine. The inhabitants of the frozen lands argue that we should mine pulverized coal. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Blast coal mining requires less labor but more materials. It also significantly increases misery. A pulverized coal mine, on the other hand, increases disease and requires more human resources. Which one should we choose?
Whichever one we choose, we have to wait a little bit because we don't have enough heat stamps at the moment. I shared with you in a previous post that you need heat stamps to build things, do research and many other things, so that's it for today. Thank you very much for reading. I hope you had as much fun reading this post as I had playing the game. Don't forget to share your thoughts with me in the comments.
Wow! The graphic jump on this second release is really amazing. I only played the first one, but I didn't finished, maybe it is time to come back to Frostpunk and finish it.
Amazing pics you bring to us in this post, mate. Nice work and style (y)
Regards and keep bringing to us more FP2 content (Y)
I'm glad you like it man, you'll be seeing more Frostpunk content soon, I promise. Thanks for stopping by.
When it came out, I tried it out a little bit to see what it was like and this surprised me and I thought it was kind of funny. I mean, it really is hard to make “the best decision” because a lot of times, whatever you do, you will have not so positive consequences down the road. It's cool and stressful at the same time haha.
Exactly man, over time you're bound to have problems because of your choice. Sometimes in terms of resources, sometimes in terms of manpower, but in the end, we choose whichever way is more advantageous at that moment xd
