I actually brought this up back when the Paris Olympics was going on. Basically I suggested to miHoYo that they could set up an event to represent the Olympics in Genshin. That way every time we had a real Olympics Genshin could be celebrating it as well.
Then Natlan released and one big feature was the Pilgrimage, a competition to select the heroes that would fight the Abyss. They also crowned new Archons this way. So I joked about it like this was miHoYo's Olympics. Back then only Natlan locals could participate. We couldn't even use the main character clause to change their mind! But now we're done with the Abyss so suddenly this Pilgrimage stopped being necessary. What did they do? They changed it into a sporting event. And also it's now open to everybody.
Isn't that just like how the Olympics started in the real world? It used to be a Greek thing because the fighting between the city-states got too out of hand. Then as we hit the World Wars the nations of the world resurrected the Olympics to serve the same purpose but now globally. I wonder if the Pilgrimage will get that far.
Anyway I think for the first time we have an Archon's Character Quest that's more like a way to wrap up the story from the Archon Quest. Previously the quests would just deal with some lingering problem the Archon is affected by, following the conclusion of the story. Of course because this Archon didn't have any lingering issues this quest also kinda feels less impactful. It's just a fun way to close off the chapter but that's not a bad thing.
Anyway I definitely think this Archon Quest was better than what we got last year with Fontaine. But what did you guys think?
