I am sure anyone who has experienced gaming has come across long winded cut-scenes or even just times where you have to talk to many people and be forced into learning the story of the game. It makes sense that you have these parts in a game to tell a story, but if you are someone impatient like me I will be franticly pressing every button to try and skip the cutscenes. This is unless the story fully captivates me which doesn't happen often (or there is no skip button). I tend to just skip and ignore the storylines and then if I am curious I just ask someone as it can be summed up five times faster.
I have been playing Ghost of Tsushima recently and I love the graphics, gameplay and movements, however, you can not skip cut-scenes... For people who can get invested in the storyline, this is fine, but for someone who has watched someone play the game already and listened to people talking about it a lot, you get a bit bored. I can also say that the storyline wasn't captivating enough for me to be able to enjoy watching it after knowing what will happen. I will say I enjoy the multiplayer storyline a bit more as it tends to explain it while you play instead of in long, unplayable cut-scenes; it was also quite intriguing as well.
Out of quite a few games, I have played I will say one storyline that I did get invested in was the main storyline (not so much side quest stories) of God of War. To begin with, I watched to understand enough to play the game with minimum knowledge, but the more I listened to the story the more I got invested. I can't really say I know what captivated me, but I do know noticing little things in the story made it a lot better. It definitely got my attention enough to ask one of my friends, who is known to over-explain things a bit too much, about the previous games. I usually avoid asking questions to that friend and as expected, he proceeded to tell me what the best loadout and skills for something were for what felt like hours. He is a great person, but I automatically lost brain function and zoned out a minute into the conversation.
With storylines, if I don't find it interesting then I tend to just completely stop playing the game, unless the gameplay out does it or another feature in the game captures my attention. It is a bit of a bad habit, but if I can't get into it I just won't, unfortunately. That is where it can help if you have friends with good gaming knowledge to tell you which games are worth it!
I have been recommended Titanfall 2, recently, which was not going to be a game I would have chosen to play as I first thought it was only multiplayer based. However, I got told otherwise, gave it a try and I will say so far I am quite enjoying even the storyline. Titanfall 2 has quite a bit of lore outside of the game as well and while I have been streaming some of the viewers I had told me about bits that aren't in the game, but it makes it all the better. One game I have to say I don't know how it has kept my interest at times is Genshin Impact. My best guess is the gambling side which can keep players hooked through the reward-based system. If you are new to gaming the calmer combat can be good and the storyline isn't too bad. My problem is that many of the quests you can do are so off track to the storyline I start to question what I am even doing in the game. I will try to sum up what I mean, the aim of the game is to find your sibling and the next thing you know you are doing food deliveries and saving the world... A little off track if I do say so, but anyway, I am lucky to have my mum sum up a 20-minute quest in 30 seconds in that game :)
PS. I'd love to hear your personal thoughts on game cut-scenes!
Hey Izzy! Thanks for dropping by and upvoting my most recent vid!
I appreciate it very much!
Personally i enjoy cutscenes as i love storytelling. For example I love the cutscenes in the Metal Gear Solid games (sometimes i just head over to youtube and watch the entire "game movie" which are cutscenes compiled throughout the game and turned into a movie). Those most seamless cutscenes i have ever seen were in the Half Life games though, where the cutscenes with merge/transition with actual gameplay....GROUNDBREAKING work that was.
Hope you have an enjoyable day!
