While passing through the galaxy on his starship, the great and powerful Lord Arianthus noticed signs of life on a planet below. Apparently, monsters of all sorts were battling one another in endless competition. Lord Arianthus, enjoying battle and competition very much himself, decided to land on the little planet. He would show these puny monsters the meaning of defeat!
How's it going fellow Splinterlands battlers? This week's challenge is to share a post about a card that may have been overlooked or forgotten by the community so I've decided to write about an old Beta card that was totally META back in the day, but is not seen so often today, Lord Arianthus. There was a time when this card seemed like an impassible wall that you would give up all hope of winning when your enemy put this card out front as it reflected all of your magic attacks right back at 'ya and did two hit points of thorn damage anytime you melee attacked it. There are only 2,000 copies of this card and at $100 for a MAX copy it is out of my budget so I doubt any new players would know or think about buying it, but you can rent it pretty cheaply. I'm not much of a renter as I prefer just to own the cards, but this is the one card that I am currently renting so I guess that says a lot about my opinion of Lord Arianthus.
It may seem like a bad idea to put a card out front that doesn't do any attack damage, but this card will still get you a lot of wins. Now that you can give weapons training to cards, Lord Arianthus is even more unstoppable. Even at level 1, this card can be useful because it has shield and is resistant to magic attacks, but it really shines at MAX level where it has plenty of life, magic reflection, and thorns. Looking at this card now in the year 2025 I see how much Splinterlands has changed because 9 health used to be a lot, but seems just average today. Even though it only has 9 health, it's more like 17 or 18 because it takes twice as much magic and mellee attack to kill him not to mention if you give him some shields and a healer or amplifier. I used to have this card at MAX-level, but had to sell it when I was broke during Covid, but I do remember I sold it for about a hundred bucks so it's maintained its price over this time. I'm sure it was crazy expensive back in the 2021 bull run, but I was a knucklehead and quit the game just to get rug pulled by lots of stupid defi projects. If I had just stayed loyal to the game I love, Splinterlands, I would've done way better, but we all know what it's like when FOMO takes control of your decision-making process.
Even though I came to this battle with all MAX-level cards I was a bit worried when I saw the summoner they had, but I ended up losing only one card. Since it wasn't a Survival battle I guess it didn't matter anyways. Have you had a go at Survival yet? I'm still in the Wood League because I got frustrated after losing a match and not being able to use my best cards for several days. I've still got to go through my collection and take some of my best cards out of the Survival line-up, but I'm still having fun playing in Modern and Wild. I suspect that will change soon when Chaos Legion moves to the Wild League, but then again, I'll welcome the challenge of learning what new META appears with the newer cards too.
Thanks for reading about Lord Arianthus today. I can understand why you wouldn't bust out a Benjamin for him, but he's worth a shot on the rental market. I promise you he'll help you win some Wild battles!
