I loved The Legend of Zelda on the original Nintendo with its magical ability to save your game in its shiny golden cartridge. I don't remember the Super Nintendo's ๐The Legend of ZELDA a Link to the Past๐ coming in gold, but my friend's dad was a mechanic who professionally spray-painted it gold like its 8-bit predecessor. It looked legit so we believed it was one of the only ones. I also remember years later President Obama giving a golden Nintendo Wii to Queen Elizabeth, but she couldn't play it because our TVs are different. This gameplay is on my Samsung Galaxy using touchscreen controls. I'm used to playing Street Fighter II this way so playing ๐The Legend of ZELDA a Link to the Past๐ with a touchscreen was a good gaming experience without the frustration and anger when the controls don't do what you need.
In the early 1990s, all I had was the original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System. I would only be able to jealousy play the Super Nintendo at friends' houses. Every one of them had ๐The Legend of ZELDA a Link to the Past๐ but it's not exactly a social game so we never really played it together. We were too busy turning digital Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat games into real physical ones and accusing each other of cheating.
I've cleared and memorized the 8 and 64-bit versions of this adventure so playing this 16-bit version feels like a wonderful missing link.
This is such a beautiful-looking game. I wonder how many people have successfully converted it to a 3D or VR experience.
I feel extremely limited at the moment gaming rig-wise because I started Conversation Gaming with a PlayStation 4 and was having a blast with 4 controllers and my adult students learning natural conversation while playing games together. The PlayStation 4 is wonderful for conversations because the microphone works better than anything I've ever seen and a lot of people are shy so you can have a chat without having to show your face because you're the cool Avatar. I sold my PS4 because it was too big to travel with, but never got the PlayStation 5 so now I'm just gaming on a phone and an old PC. It's fine because I enjoy playing old 8-bit and 16-bit games but recently I felt that I've played every great 8-bit game available and I got bored of SEGA very quickly so I'm glad I have ๐The Legend of ZELDA a Link to the Past๐ to keep me entertained for at least the next year. Maybe I'll clear it faster than that, but I don't play it every day. I play mostly when I'm without an internet connection which isn't often.
I started off with nothing. Now I can pick stuff up and throw it and I have a ๐ก๏ธ and a ๐ก๏ธ. Let's save Zelda!
Thanks for reading about my ๐The Legend of ZELDA a Link to the Past๐on the Super Nintendo gameplay today. How long do you think it will take me to clear it?
