[Eng-Esp] Thetan Arena: My experience and reflection

A week ago was the official launch of a game that I personally loved at a level that I feel has the potential to compete with Axie Infinity. It is Thetan Arena, a PVP battle game with several modes based on the use of our skills and teamwork, where we can choose between several classes of heroes according to their rarity (common, epic, legendary) as well as equip them with certain weapons and skills that make us perform in the best way on the battlefield.

A special feature of this game is that you can play for free, as we give us 3 heroes, although they are not NFTs allow us to test the game. But not only this, but with these free heroes you can also start earning your tokens (THC) as you rank up through the battles you win. The only thing you can't do with free heroes is to earn THC tokens per battle and the number of tokens you can withdraw is limited (min. 30 - max. 60).

For this reason, I considered that to get more profitability out of the game the best thing to do was to buy an NFTs hero, however, I decided to wait because the cheapest ones, even though they were common, were around 300$. At that very moment, they announced that between December 3rd and 5th they were going to release a special sale of boxes with heroes, the common ones valued at $150 and the epic ones at $300, which were to be canceled in BUSD. I told myself that this was the opportunity I was waiting for and on December 3 I bought two common boxes.

Fate apparently confirmed that I made a good decision since I got a common hero with rare skin (Calvary General Cluster) and a common hero with Mythical skin (Scarecrow Destroid).

Hace una semana fue el lanzamiento oficial de un juego que personalmente me encantó a un nivel que siento tiene el potencial de hacerle competencia a Axie Infinity. Se trata de Thetan Arena, un juego de batalla PVP con varias modalidades basadas en el uso de nuestras habilidades y el trabajo en equipo, donde podemos escoger entre varias clases de héroes según su rareza (común, épico, legendario) al igual que equiparlos con determinadas armas y destrezas que nos hagan desenvolver de la mejor manera en el campo de batalla.

Una característica especial de este juego es que se pude jugar de forma gratuita, ya que nos regalan 3 héroes, que aunque no son NFTs nos permiten probar el juego. Pero no sólo esto, con estos héroes gratuitos también se puede empezar a ganar su tokens (THC) a medida que subimos de ranking a través de las batallas que ganamos. Lo único que no se pude hacer con los héroes gratuitos es ganar tokens THC por batalla y es limitado la cantidad de tokens que se puede retirar (min. 30 - max. 60).

Por esta razón, consideré que para sacarle una mayor rentabilidad al juego lo mejor era adquirir un héroe NFTs, no obstante, decidí esperar porque los más baratos aún siendo comunes rondaban los 300$. En ese mismo momento anunciaron que entre el 03 y 05 de diciembre iban a sacar una venta especial de cajas con héroes, valoradas las comunes en 150$ y las épicas en 300$, que debían a ser cancelados en BUSD. Me dije que esa era la oportunidad que estaba esperando y el mismo día 03 adquirí dos cajas comunes.

El destino al parecer me confirmó que tomé una buena decisión, ya que me salieron un héroe común de skin rare (Calvary General Cluster) y un héroe común de skin Mythical (Scarecrow Destroid).

From the point of view of game experience, it seemed to be something fabulous, since it is necessary to have good strategies and practice the skills of each hero, as well as to understand each game mode and make a good synergy with the team that we have to play. Things that I hope to develop further if the game is as successful as it promises to be.

However, just as I was hooked by the experience of the game, I was concerned about its economic system, in fact, its special offer of boxes generated discomfort in some investors. Although personally, I can not say the same since I could benefit if I understand the point of view of these, who had acquired a few days before some heroes more expensive than what was offered in the special event.

This could be something that has a solution, which in part will be that what was collected in the event is used to buy token THC (so the team has promised), but from my point of view, it is not enough, because, with the number of players who have entered with NFTs will generate more tokens THC in the game, most of which will be sold, as currently, the team has not been clear about the burning system they propose for it, which following the law of supply and demand leads to the devaluation of the currency, in which we have a current example the fall of Axie Infinity's SLP.

The only utility that the THC has today is to buy hero boxes (1000 the common and 2000 the epic), therefore, my reflection is that I need to see more ways to burn this token, that establish a solid system for this, because being a token of unlimited emission, the success of it goes through the control of such emission.

Desde el punto de vista de experiencia de juego me ha parecido, pues, algo fabuloso, ya que se necesita tener unas buenas estrategias y practicar las habilidades de cada héroe, al igual que es necesario comprender cada modo de juego y hacer una buena sinergia con el equipo que nos toque jugar. Cosas que espero poder desarrollar ulteriormente si el juego tiene el éxito que en germen promete.

Ahora bien, así como me enganchó la experiencia del juego me preocupó su sistema económico, de hecho, su oferta especial de cajas generó molestias en algunos inversores. Aunque personalmente no puedo decir lo mismo ya que me pude beneficiar si comprendo el punto de vista de éstos, que habían adquirido unos días antes unos héroes más caros de lo que se ofrecieron en el evento especial.

Esto podría ser algo que tenga una solución, que en parte va a ser que lo que se recaudó en el evento se use para comprar token THC (así lo ha prometido el equipo), pero desde mi punto de vista no es suficiente, pues, con la cantidad de jugadores que han ingresado con NFTs se va a generar mas tokens THC en el juego, la mayoría de la cual se va a vender, pues actualmente el equipo no ha sido claro sobre el sistema de quema que proponen para el mismo, con lo cual siguiendo la ley de la oferta y demanda lleva a la devaluación de la moneda, en lo cual tenemos un ejemplo actual la caída del SLP de Axie Infinity.

La única utilidad que tiene hoy en día el THC es la de comprar cajas de héroes (1000 la común y 2000 la épica), por lo cual, mi reflexión es que necesito ver más modos de quemar este token, que establezcan un sistema sólido para esto, pues al tratarse de un token de emisión ilimitada, el éxito del mismo pasa por el control de dicha emisión.

I'm right there alongside you here. I am enjoying the gameplay significantly and see this game has a future. At the same time, they have some major issues they need to work on.

  1. As you mentioned the economy is very weak wtm. Only a single THC burn mechanic and if you really look into it and do the math it isn't a true burn as almost all heroes create more thc than it costs to buy them.
  2. This team is relatively sketchy. Their official discord is FULL of people with issues and it is poorly moderated. Their mods are incredibly ban happy and get rid of even the slightest critics of the game. When responding they also are very 'half-assed' in their approach. They very clearly need to get their act together or this game will go down in flames just like Heroes Strike did.
  3. Thetan is simply a reskin of the devs other game Heroes Strike. This game is more or less void of human players which means that the game itself wasn't kept fresh enough to engage a serious playerbase. This means that the NFT play2earn aspect is likely all that we have to keep this thing afloat long term.
