I wasn't going to get into Path of Exile this league. I had a brief look on release-day, thought the new Expedition mechanics were simple yet still enjoyable, but I wasn't overly interested in actually playing.
Then my partner started playing. He was interested in trying out a new summoner build, and loved it so much that he poked and prodded me for ages, "Play this. Be a summoner. We can annihilate maps with our minions!"
So, I sighed. And opened up the game again. And didn't really feel it until about level 60 where suddenly I really liked my minions and I was desperate to get the stupid story over and done with so I could focus on end-game.
This is a giant pet peeve I have with Path of Exile, I mean, apart from the tiny inventory. (Would still, totally, throw a bunch of actual money at the microtransaction store if they gave me more inventory space.)
I want an adventure mode!
I'm sick of doing the story over and over and over and over and over. I'm sure others are too.
Adventure mode!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell, the maps, heists, everything, would be perfect. Find random passive skill points/respec points whilst killing things to make up for the quest rewards. It'll be fine.
At the moment I've just finished Act 10 and the tiny 'epilogue.' FINALLY. I can finally do the proper, actually enjoyable things in the game. And this is what I want to be running, when I find the correct socketed gear.
In my future 6-socket weapon and 6-socket chestpiece there shall be:
Summon Raging Spirits: spell echo, multistrike, melee splash, melee physical damage, empower.
Raise Skeletons: feeding frenzy, melee splash, brutality, minion damage, melee physical damage.
And in my future 4-socket everything-else there shall be:
Raise Spectre: (I'm not too sure just yet. My current spectres are the bare-breasted zombie ladies who shoot their nipples. I have meat shield on them so they're more defensive, but not sure about the other 2 gems just yet.)
Raise Zombies: Melee physical damage, melee splash, multistrike.
Stone Golem: Life leech, fortify -- -- -- Dash: that's it. Just for escapability.
I haven't really looked at the minion related uniques and gem possibilities yet, but I just found this unique helm that makes my minions a bit beefier. So I played with the sockets and got 1 blue and 3 red and that's now where my stone golem lives.
I'm currently level 75 and I've caught up to my partner at his level of 77, and now we can do maps and all that stuff together! Hooray!
It's time to annihilate all the things with our army of minions.
We were going to get right into this (and No Man's Sky) in our wait for New World to be released... but, apparently it's been delayed, again.
I'm all for developers taking feedback into account and polishing their game based on the view of their players. But it's an MMO. A genre of game that gets updated, that has things change, all the time!
And I'm impatient. 😅
So, for the time being, I guess I'll try to keep my attention on other things instead of the wait.
Until next time,
Thanks for stopping by. 😊
The story is what made me stop. I've played it and rushed it so many times I just don't want to spend time on that anymore. Such a shame cause the game is awesome.
I'm hoping that Path of Exile 2 will breathe a little more life into the game in that manner.
I know that it's going to be a new story in the same game client, but I also hope that they might change the levelling a bit when it concerns new characters when the account already has a character that has experienced it. Or at least, hopefully they might consider it. From what I've been reading, a lot of people have this issue with the game.
It's been five years, and I finally got to maps in hardcore because of raging spirits.
My supports of choice; poison and infernal legion support.
I was tempted to get all splodey, with the unstable minions node but never got there.
I pushed the burning damage right up, and let them stay alive longer.
Now I'm at maps. I've only run one and I really don't want to die :)
Congrats!!! 😄😄😄
Raging Spirits is currently my favourite thing - I started off with infernal legion, but then as I progressed I thought I'd go more physical damage rather than fiery, and so far I'm really enjoying the change!
The maps can get pretty intense. 😬 My current mode of operation is throw all of my skeletons out, dash back out of sight, and fling raging spirits everywhere, and hope that nothing sees me. xD (My first character this league was a hardcore one! Would you believe that I died to the necromancer who summons those bone dog creatures in the fetid pools? Haha! It was my most uninspiring death so far, I think.)
You went hard, early, and didn't lose much :)
I haven't successfully MADE it to endgame in PoE yet! I keep getting stuck around act 8 or so... which is partly due to time constraints and partly because I often end up picking builds that are either tossed together shenanigans I make, or not optimized builds trying some new gem or skill.
One of these days I really have to sit down with the goal of starting a season and hitting endgame as fast as I can.
It took me a long time to actually get to end game! Before, I'd always stop halfway through Act 4. :D
Endgame is where it's at -- you can do thieving heists, dig your way down deep into an enemy infested mine, complete a thousand or so maps as you chase evil peoples across the world. And I had no idea about any of it until last season when my partner played with me.
I think that's been my main issue primarily. Playing with someone else. The game is lonely and doesn't feel as though it has a point, but when playing with someone else it actually becomes really fun.
Met the devs of this at GDC. They would go to Blizzard events, and talk shit about their design being better than Diablo III. Really cool guys to talk to.
They're not wrong! I enjoyed Diablo 3, and still do when I feel like a more casual ARPG experience where I don't have to think quite so much, but Path of Exile really does blow it out of the water.
