The last remaining cards of the new Welcome Set we didn't inspect so far are the War ones. War is usually know for tanky creatures and high damage output, and this extension is no exception. The new cards consist of 3 Viking creatures, 4 spells and a cheap godblitz relic. The creatures are noting special but could still help to establish Viking themed decks. The spells are mostly there to buff your creatures, but can also do some damage. Because War has much less removals than the other gods, this might be interesting.
Spotlight: War
The first card, Call to Arms, has a simple effect: Increase the strength of all creatures in your deck by 1. This sounds good,but it seems hard to take advantage of this effect. I haven't seen anyone on the higher levels use it so far. It does not seem helpful for Slayer War, because they need every single card to have an immediate impact, rather than wasting 3 Mana to possibly get some small strength boost. Onslaught decks that try to remove every single creature with Blitz could benefit, but using more creatures instead of slightly stronger ones might be the better option.
The second card, Over-proof Brew, is an actually good multi-purpose card. Remember when I said the new Magic multi-purpose cards are not that good? Well, this isn't true for this war card. This spell can be a little less powerful Crystal Rain, but it can also buff your creatures like Firewine, for example if you want to finish your opponent. It is definitely not an option for every kind of deck, but if you have enough high-health creatures, it can be a good addition.

The Welcome Set showed again how much fun Gods Unchained can be, if some changes are being made. There is a lot of work in progress, but if you play this game a lot, you can easily get the impression that thing don't develop fast enough. There is so much more to come, and while I especially wish for a draft mode, I think Season one will make waiting much easier :)
