After I managed to escape from the castle (don't ask me what it looked like – let's just say that the Vikings are not famous for their grace), I decided it was time for another mission. The map led me towards a bridge – a neat, stone one that looked like a perfect place for battle. Of course, nothing in this game is as simple as it seems, so the bridge became the stage for my next "brilliant" plan, which, as always, went completely wrong.
The first clash – "Maybe someone else will lead this attack?"
The bridge was guarded by a group of guards who apparently took their work very seriously. They were armed, organized, and, worst of all, they had archers. I planned to approach them from behind, sneaking around in the style of a real assassin, but... Well, I'm not an Assassin. I'm a Viking.
The first thing I did was accidentally knock over a barrel. The guards turned around immediately, and instead of running away, I rushed at them with an axe in my hand, shouting:
"TO THE ATTACK!"
It was a bad idea. The guards quickly surrounded me, and I, as usual, began to press all the buttons on the pad, trying to save myself somehow.
"Fabian, what are you doing?!" I muttered to myself as I watched Eivor perform a random flip and land right in the river under the bridge.
Luckily, Vikings have more life than cats, so Eivor got up, dusted himself off, and walked back to the bridge. This time I decided to play smarter... at least for a while.
Bridge Fight – "Axes, Lightning and Barrels"
The second attempt to attack went a little better. I ran onto the bridge with a sword in one hand and an axe in the other, doing everything I could to look like a real Viking. The guards began to retreat, and I felt that I had the upper hand.
"Now I have you!" I shouted, making a spectacular blow with an axe that accidentally hit a barrel full of gunpowder.
The barrel exploded with such force that it not only swept the guards off the bridge, but also me. Eivor landed in the river again, and I began to wonder if the game had some ulterior motto in drowning me every time I tried to be a hero.
In the end, however, I managed to get back to the bridge and defeat the last guards. This time without explosions. Okay, almost no explosions.
Retaking the Village – "Are They... sheep?"
After the battle on the bridge, the game led me to a nearby village that I was supposed to recapture. Sounds simple, right? You enter, defeat the guards, free the inhabitants. The problem is that this village was... Strange. Instead of normal people, there were sheep everywhere.
–Seriously? I said, watching Eivor stand among the flock of sheep.
The guards, seeing my surprise, decided to attack. The fight was chaotic, because every now and then a sheep ran between us, and I had to avoid both blows and accidental hits of the animal.
"Okay, who came up with this level?" I asked when one of the sheep accidentally knocked over the guard, and I took the opportunity to defeat him.
After the fight ended, the residents thanked me for my help. But to be honest, I had the impression that the sheep were the real heroes of this rally.
Treasures on the Tower – "Fabian vs. the Stairs"
When I had already recaptured the village, I noticed a tall tower on the hill. There was a sign on the map that suggested that there was a treasure on top of it. Of course, as a true Viking, I couldn't ignore it.
The problem is that climbing the tower was more difficult than I expected. Eivor kept losing his balance, and I accidentally fell from one platform to another.
"Fabian, focus," I said to myself, trying to climb another edge again.
Finally, I reached the top, where she was waiting for me... gold bracelet. Not treasure, not armor, not weapons. Bracelet.
–Truly? Is it all for the bracelet? I asked, but I knew I would come back for it anyway, even if it weighed two grams.
On the bridge and in the river
A bridge, sheep and a tower. That day was full of challenges that showed me one thing – being a Viking is not just about axes and fire. It is also chaos, mistakes and falling from a height. But that's exactly why this game is brilliant. Every moment, even the most absurd, makes me feel like a part of this galactic crazy story.
And what next? Next post is new adventures, more fights and... probably even more falls. Because as the Vikings say: "If you didn't fall off the bridge, it means you didn't try".
