Summer in Mara Quests

The older I get, the more I am willing to compromise on a lot of things. If in the past I was using Linux full time and never wanted to switch, this year I am going back to full Windows and welcoming my era of playing games again. If in the past the games I played were also simple and mostly browser based games, this time I did quite a bit of an upgrade and can finally play most STEAM games without a lot of issues. So, in addition to my movie reviews, self-improvement, and travel, gaming is now in full swing and back!

I mostly play cozy games and also some older FPS here and there. If you enjoy those, don’t miss out on my future game updates and reviews.Fun story, in my 26 years now, only last week I was trying Runescape for the first time 😂. I am probably way too late but Runescape looks pretty fun and something I can see myself playing it a lot more. Most importantly, also thanks to a good friend of mine, I got a few decent games and today I’m sharing the recent game I am playing, a cozy crafting adventure game called Summer in Mara.

Buckle up and follow my biweekly adventure over Summer in mara.

Koa the main character

On Steam, this game is around $7 with a few bundle options. The one I have is the basic game but it’s really worth it especially if you’re into crafting games and adventure. If you used to love Harvest moon, this game is your thing as the scenario is pretty similar except the setting is set on a tropical island. You’ll be playing the girl named Koa and explore the island from fishing, planting, to exploring port towns such as Qälis. The inhabitants of this universe are pretty strange, filled with different races from ancient ones to humans like Koa.

Some creatures on the game

I certainly haven’t explored a lot of it and the mission that I did is only up to unlocking the city of Qälis. So, today I’ll get you to see what it took me to unlock the city of Qälis.

Koa's hut

In this post I’ll show you the atmosphere of the game and also the missions that I did so far. In my opinion, this game is pretty atmospheric and vibrant. Navigating the character is quite easy and the artwork itself is adorable. However, from the STEAM review, people mentioned that they are bugs here and there. Yet so far, I have not experienced any of it.

Unlocking the city of Qälis

One of the early quests in the game

When you’re first starting, you’ll talk to a creature named Yaya Haku, adoptive grandmother of Koa. She will mention a few things and quest for the basics; such as planting carrots and tending them.

image.png

One of the most slightly confusing quest is the “offering” quest because at first, you can’t not see the items that you need to offer but if you step over the bowl of the offering, you will see that you would need 5 oranges and the gods will eventually unlock the new creature Napopo that will unlock the boat experience to travel to city of city of Qälis.

City of Qälis is pretty modern. There are houses and vending machines. It’s a well-civilized place and Koa lives further apart South from the city. In this city, Koa will learn how to make threads for the fishing rod and unlock more experience and seeds to plant including cotton. This quest is given by Noho who sits by the dock of Qälis. Then you have to return home to plant the cotton seeds and wait until harvest time, make the threads and go back to Qälis to eventually talk to Saimi, the lighthouse keeper that will also unlock more quests. Anyhow, see you on the next quests from Summer in mara!

City of Qälis

In another note, I am still figuring out how to record the game through steam and once I figure it out, I’ll be uploading videos of it too. If you want to learn more of future tricks and trips for this game, follow the update every Monday and Friday.

You don't have to give up Linux. You can use it like I do. I have Puppy Linux 9.5 (FossaPup64) on a USB stick and a 32GB save file system for it on my hard drive. FossaPup64 uses the Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa kernel.

I'll only use that on my old laptop :D this one only for gaming and other stuff that needs speed haha. TBH I also been using it for years now that I feel stupid using windows and wanting to re-learn again.

Wow! I guess it's been a long time since I've seen a game post from you 😂😂. Last time I remember you posted a real time strategy game, this one looks pretty cheap and fun. I'm sure the people in the community will like it.

hahahah pretty much! I stopped playing any games when my laptop was really slower than snails. I play a lot of RTS and yeah this one in terms of cost is cheap but max fun. I also play runescape and alienswarm, will post about them later :D

What a beautiful looking game.

Yes and they have good music too. As long as you don't overdo playing this game, it should be fine.

Welcome back to the world of gaming! This is the first time I've heard of Summer in Mara. I'd say I like the animation for their promotional video! A bit unsure if I'd pick it up, though. Stardew Valley is still on top of my farming games but maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges! 🤔

Stardew Valley would be a lot more complex and different than this one. So,yeah it's like apples to oranges. I do enjoy going back to gaming again, it's really been a while 😁
