I never got a chance to play The Last of Us despite all the hype around it. Having being remind of it lately following the squeal coming up I decided to give it a rise through.
Am I glad I did, I brought the remastered edition on PS4 (included the left behind DLC) for £16 as a digital download it was money well spent.
I view it as a strong story game. It's not that it lacks good game mechanics its just the mechanics were overshadowed. It has the usual survival game mechanics, sneaking, crafting and a lack of resources so you actually have to think before you start a fight as it could get you in trouble later when you run out of bullets. This of course I learned the hard way by having a checkpoint right before a big fight started and zero gear in my bag - there are only so many enemies you can beat down with your fists while being shot at. As for the DLC, it was a nice addition to the story, if somewhat short. One thing I enjoyed about it was how they had the zombies and human enemies fighting each other, something that never occurred in my playthrough, so I could sit back and watch the carnage, and even lore the zombies towards the humans.
All I know of the last of us Part II is its set a few years later with Ellie all grown up, I hate spoilers so I am try to keep it that way, despite people leaking things.
I am really looking forward to playing it, it has seen some coronavirus related delays but it is set to release soon (I hope).
