Originally I wanted this post to be part of the Ready Player Hive initiative, but because I found out about it literally like 2 hours before it was going to end I realized I wasn't going to give time xd. But I really liked the idea of the initiative, so I decided to make this post anyway because the truth is, the character I'm going to talk about today is undoubtedly one that has a very special place in my heart: Link.
TUDNThe reason why I got so excited and encouraged to do this post is thanks to all the beautiful memories I keep related to this character and his countless adventures, so that's why I want to start touching on a few points.
First, I want to talk about his story.
I could tell Link's story, but since he has lived so many adventures throughout different games, it's a bit difficult for me to choose which one to tell, since there are so many to choose from. However, there is one in specific that I am going to tell, which is the story of Link from Twilight Princess (my favorite game of the saga).

In this installment of the saga we are presented with a version of Link with a quiet life, in which he leads a humble life in a small village called Ordon located in the forest of Faron woods. Here link lives quietly helping from time to time on the farm, taking care of his faithful mare Epona, playing with children, etc..
Everything at first looks pretty peaceful, until at one point Link and his friends are attacked by a horde of monsters, which knock out our hero and take the others away. Once awake Link quickly runs in search of the monsters in the direction of Faron woods, only to find that where there used to be a beautiful landscape full of lush trees, now there is only a dark wall with strange symbols, with an ominous aura emanating from it.
And all for seconds later, a dark hand comes out of that dark cloak and drags Link into its depths....
Once inside that wall, Link finds himself face to face with the creature that dragged him inside, which threatens to harm him, until suddenly, a glow begins to emanate from the hand of our young protagonist. That glow is the Triforce of Courage, whose light is strong enough to scare the creature away, making it release Link to the ground.
However, our hero does not get up, and begins to shudder as if he were in some kind of pain, and all so that after a liberating cry Link adopts the form of a wolf! A few seconds later he falls unconscious to the ground, causing the same beast from before to grab him and take him to an unknown place.
From here the whole story takes shape. Link wakes up in a dungeon and meets the one who will be his companion for the rest of the adventure: Midna.

With the help of this mysterious companion, link, now a wolf, begins to search for a way out of this mysterious place where it seems that the light has been completely engulfed by the shadows....
Eventually Link discovers that he is in a decaying castle in Hyrule, where he meets Princess Zelda who explains to him that his entire village was attacked by Zant, the usurper King of Shadows, enveloping the entire region in a blanket of darkness. With this explanation completed, Zelda urges Link to seek out and free the spirits of light that dwell in the fountains scattered throughout the kingdom, as these are the only ones capable of fading the shadows that loom over Hyrule.
After freeing the first spirit located in Faron woods, he explains to Link that he is nothing more and nothing less than the hero chosen by the goddesses, the chosen one whose goal will be to save the entire kingdom of Hyrule from the dangers that lie ahead.
With this new information, Link (now a human thanks to the power of the spirit) decides to proudly take on his role as a hero, and sets out on the arduous mission to save the entire kingdom from its imminent destruction.
It is here, where the story of the Hero of Twilight began.
The truth is that I could go on explaining but I think that what I have already said is more than enough. Now that we are done with the story let's move on to the important point.
Why is Link my favorite character?
Ever since I was very young, video games have been a very important part of my life, and I would even go as far as to say that they have had a big influence on who I am today.
When I was a kid my only consoles were the Wii and the 3DS, so I got to try different video games such as Mario Party, Mario Kart, Pokemon, etc. These were all video games that I really liked, but, when I tried Twilight Princess which was my first Zelda I felt...something, an indescribable magic that I could feel deep in my heart. And the moment I started playing I felt a sensation that I have never felt with any other video game.
Seeing Link, a farm boy with a quiet life face thousands of dangers without backing down with the sole purpose of protecting his friends and family made me feel...Heroic.
I understand that the reason Link is mute is so that the player can put his own thoughts and feelings into Link's mind, so that sense of heroism I felt is something normal...but in my 9 year old mind, I didn't see Link as a simple connection between the player and the game, I saw him as just another character. Someone with his own thoughts, feelings and convictions.
I saw link descend into the depths of an enemy infested lake to help a tribe whose water source had dried up. I saw link face an orc twice his size just to rescue one of his friends. I saw Link ascend to the sky itself and defeat a dragon just so he could take one more step in his journey to save Hyrule.
As the game progressed I didn't just feel like I was the only one going on that adventure, I felt like I was being accompanied by Link. I felt that it was he and I who were facing that destiny that had been entrusted by the goddesses. The legend was not only mine, but Link's as well.

Once I finished the game and watched the credits sequence pass, I felt as if I had lived a great adventure myself which had come to an end. That's why I started trying the other games in the saga. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword, Minish Cap, etc.
Each and every one of these games of this saga I have enjoyed them in a very personal way, because it is not only that they are good games, but that going on adventures with Link always transports me to my childhood, and gives me a happiness and a feeling of warmth that very few games are able to give me.
And all this thanks to the mere presence of Link, the hero who has been with me since my childhood and who has taught me something very important; No matter how difficult the challenges we face may seem, all we need is the courage to try to overcome them and see if we are able to do it. After all, it takes much more courage to try and fail, than to never try at all.

TUDNLa razón por la que me emocioné y me animé tanto en hacer este post es gracias a todos los bellos recuerdos que guardo relacionados con este personaje y sus incontables aventuras, así que por ello quiero empezar a tocar unos cuantos puntos.
Primero, quiero hablar acerca de su historia.
Podría contar la historia de Link, pero como el ha llegado a vivir tantas aventuras a lo largo de distintos juegos me resulta un tanto difícil elegir cual de todas contar, pues son muchas que escoger. Sin embargo, hay una en específico que voy a contar, la cual se trata de la historia del Link de Twilight Princess (mi juego favorito de la saga).
La leyenda del héroe del crepúsculo

En esta entrega de la saga se nos presenta una versión de Link con una vida tranquila, en la cual el lleva una vida humilde en un pequeño pueblo llamado Ordon ubicado en el bosque. Aquí link vive tranquilamente ayudando de vez en cuando en la granja, cuidando de su fiel yegua Epona, jugando con los niños, etc.
Todo al principio luce bastante tranquilo, hasta que llegados a un punto Link y sus amigos son atacados por una horda de monstruos, los cuales noquean a nuestro héroe y se llevan a los demás. Una vez despierto Link corre rápidamente en busca de los monstruos en dirección al bosque de Farone, solo para encontrarse que donde antes solía haber un bello paisaje lleno de árboles frondosos, ahora solo se encuentra un muro oscuro con símbolos extraños, con un aura ominosa emanando de él.
Y todo para que segundos después, una mano oscura salga de aquel manto oscuro y arrastre a Link a sus profundidades...
Una vez dentro de aquel muro, Link se encuentra frente a frente con aquella criatura que lo arrastró adentro, la cual amenaza con hacerle daño, hasta que de repente, un brillo empieza a emanar de la mano de nuestro joven protagonista. Ese brillo se trata de la trifuerza del valor, cuya luz es lo suficientemente fuerte como para ahuyentar a la criatura haciendo que suelte a Link al suelo.
Sin embargo, nuestro héroe no se levanta, y empieza a estremecerse como si tuviera algún tipo de dolor, y todo para que luego de un grito liberador link adopte la forma de un lobo! El cual pocos segundos después cae inconsciente al suelo, haciendo que la misma bestia de antes lo tome y se lo lleve a un lugar desconocido.
A partir de aquí toda la historia pieza a tomar forma. Link despierta en un calabozo y se encuentra a la que será su compañera durante el resto de la aventura: Midna.

Con la ayuda de esta misteriosa acompañante, link, ahora un lobo, empieza a buscar una forma de salir de ese misterioso lugar en el que parece ser que la luz ha sido completamente engullida por las sombras...
Eventualmente link descubre que se encuentra en un decadente castillo de Hyrule, en donde se encuentra con la princesa Zelda la cual le explica que todo su pueblo fue atacado por Zant, El tirano de las sombras, envolviendo a toda la región en un manto de oscuridad. Con esta explicación terminada, Zelda insta a Link a buscar y liberar a los espiritus de luz que habitan en las fuentes repartidas por todo el reino, pues estos son los únicos capaces desvanecer las sombras que se ciernen sobre Hyrule.
Luego de liberar al primer espíritu ubicado en el bosque de Farone, este le explica a Link que el se trata de nada más ni nada menos de el héroe elegido por las diosas, el elegido cuyo objetivo será salvar a todo el reino de Hyrule de los peligros que se avecinan.
Con esta nueva información, Link (ahora un humano gracias al poder del espíritu) decide tomar orgullosamente su papel como héroe, y se encomienda en la ardua misión de salvar a todo el reino de su inminente destrucción.
Es aquí, donde la historia del héroe del crepúsculo dio inicio.
La verdad es que podría seguir explicando pero creo que con lo que ya he dicho es más que suficiente. Ahora que terminamos con la historia pasemos al punto importante.
¿Por qué Link es mi personaje favorito?
Desde que erra muy pequeño los videojuegos han formado una parte muy importante de mi vida, e incluso me atrevería a decir que estos influyeron bastante en quien soy hoy en día.
De pequeño mis únicas consolas eran la Wii y la 3DS, por lo que llegué a probar distintos videojuegos tales como los Mario Party, Mario Kart, Pokémon, etc. Todos estos eran videojuegos que me gustaban mucho, pero, cuando probé el Twilight Princess el cual fue mi primer Zelda sentí...algo, una magia indescriptible que podía sentir muy en el fondo de mi corazón. Y en el momento en que empecé a jugar sentí una sensación que jamás he llegado a sentir con algún otro videojuego.
Ver a Link, un chico de granja con una vida tranquila enfrentarse a miles de peligros sin echarse para atrás con el único objetivo de proteger a sus amigos y familia me hizo sentir...Heroico.
Entiendo que el motivo de que Link sea mudo es para que el jugador pueda poner sus propios pensamientos y sentimientos en la mente de Link, así que esa sensación de heroísmo que sentí es algo normal...pero en mi mente de un niño de 9 años, yo no veía a Link como una simple conexión entre el jugador y el juego, yo lo veía como un personaje más. Alguien con sus propios pensamientos, sentimientos y convicciones.
Vi a link descender en las profundidades de un lago infestado de enemigos para ayudar a una tribu cuya fuente de agua se había secado. Vi a link enfrentarse a un orco del doble de su tamaño solo para rescatar a uno de sus amigos. Vi a Link ascender al cielo mismo y derrotar a un dragón solo para poder dar un paso más en su travesía por salvar Hyrule.
Conforme avanzaba el juego no solo sentía que era yo quien estaba viviendo esa aventura, sentí que estaba siendo acompañado por Link. Sentí que éramos él y yo quienes estábamos afrontando ese destino que había sido encomendado por las diosas. La leyenda no era solo mía, sino de Link también.

Una vez que terminé el juego y vi como pasaba la secuencia de créditos, sentí como si hubiera vivido yo mismo una gran aventura la cual había llegado a su fin. Es por ello que empecé a probar los demás juegos de la saga. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword, Minish Cap, etc.
Todos y cada uno de estos juegos de esta saga los he disfrutado de una forma muy personal, pues no solo se trata de que sean buenos juegos, sino que volver a irme de aventuras con Link siempre me transporta a mi infancia, y me otorga una felicidad y una sensación de calidez que muy pocos juegos son capaces de darme.
Y todo esto gracias a la mera presencia de Link, el héroe que me lleva acompañando desde mi infancia el cual me ha enseñado algo muy importante; No importa que tan difíciles luzcan los retos que se nos presentan, lo único que necesitamos es el valor para poder intentar superarlos y ver si somos capaces de lograrlo. Al fin y al cabo, requiere mucho más valor intentarlo y fracasar, antes que ni si quiera intentarlo.

Wow, 36 years, time flies isn't?. Link has really went onto some of the best adventures that i've ever lived in a videogame.

Con respecto al post, The Legend of Zelda es mi saga favorita y la conozco desde hace unos 24 años más o menos por lo que también siento un apego bastante especial a Link y todas sus encarnaciones a través de los años. Me hace bastante feliz saber que no soy el único que ha vivido algo parecido con esta maravillosa saga. Sin embargo, Link no es mi personaje favorito de vídeojuegos jajajaja y eso es algo de lo que me acabo de dar cuenta mientras leía tu post y pensaba en el tema, pero bueno, ya hablaré de eso en mi publicación.
