Nothing beats the feeling of retro games... There is something about them that makes the player feel so connected with the game and the simplicity of the gameplay that makes them fun to play for hours without getting frustrated. Even though I play a lot of modern games, these retro style games has something in them that is difficult to explain by words except you play them. That is why when I hear older people say that the 90s was when video gaming peaked, I kinda understand them.

Today, I will be talking about a retro style RPG game i came across recently titled "Magic Rampage". When I started the game, I knew immediately that this was a game for me. The retro vibe was what appealed to me the most. Sit back and relax as I walk you through on what I think about the game as a first time player.

About this game

This is basically a platformer retro style RPG game where you as the player would have to fight and defeat enemies and obstacles on the way in other to progress to the next chapter and stage of the game. On you journey through the game, you collect coins, portions, discover treasures and discover secrets. You also collect better weapons as you fight and defeat your enemies. Like a lot of retro style games, your main objective is to complete each level and progress to the next stage of the game.

My Gameplay Video

Aside the retro style graphics of the game, the gameplay of this game is one of the main reasons why I really enjoyed playing the game. As the player, when you start the game for the first time, you are greeted with the obvious which are the people involved in the game.

Next is the obvious loading screen with the press start button. Once you press start "obviously :D" you enter the next screen where you have to select a slot to store your game journey.

After selecting a slot, the next screen is where you have the option to customize your game character like choosing your preferred game character (each character has their strengths and weaknesses), changing the eyes, color, and body.

After choosing and customizing your character, you press play. The next screen is a brief story of the game. Here you have the option to skip the story or continue watching to understand what the story of the game is all about. Once the story is completed, it moves you to the gameplay and the game begins.

You will first start with chapter 1, dungeon 1 and your objectives is to progress to the next levels and stages of the game by completing each dungeons and chapters.

As you play the game, you will be faced with enemies and obstacles on your way and as always, your aim is to defeat your enemies and overcome the obstacles as they come your way. You earn points, diamonds, rewards, and better weapons as you play and progress through the game.

What I Think About the Game So Far

For me, I like a lot about the game... the first one being the retro style of the game... it has a classic feel to it, like the old-school 16bit games but with an engaging gameplay mechanics. Which brings me to the gameplay - I like the gameplay of the game, the controls and mechanics complements the gameplay and makes it so much fun to play.

The story as well... even though the game does not really have a strong focus on storyline like a lot of other RPG style games, it focuses more about the gameplay and the fun in fighting enemies and exploring the different environments and dungeons.

Another thing I like about the game is the sense of accomplishment you get when you make progress in the game. While the game might look easy, it is not a walk in the park as it poses its own stages of challenges. As you progress in the game and complete each stages of the game (dungeons and story chapters), you encounter tougher enemies and more challenging obstacles which makes the game more fun for me in my opinion.

Overall, I really like the game and I think it is a great game for anyone to play. It's really fun and for retro style game lovers like me, this game will really feel connected. I hope you had fun reading my take on this amazing game... see you in the next one!
