The Adept Series: The Trickster

in Hive Gaming3 years ago

Hi Hive.

I hope you’re ok. This post is about my latest YouTube video.
This weeks video is another entry into my Adept Series, and this week I’m playing as The Trickster.

The Adept Series follows me as I try to unlock the adept achievement for each survivor and killer. To unlock the achievement as a survivor, you simply need to escape using that survivors teachable perks only. As a killer, you need to get a merciless killer ranking whilst using that killers teachable perks only. This is usually only possible by hooking survivors at least 9 times. Despite this, you should usually try to aim for the full 12 hooks, which equates to 3 hooks on each survivor.

So onto Trickster’s perks. His first one is Hex: Crowd Control. Hex perks work differently to normal perks. Upon selecting a Hex perk in your loadout, 1 of 5 dull totems will become a Hex totem throughout the totality of the game. Dull totems can be cleansed by the survivors for extra bloodpoints. This also applies for Hex totems. Once a Hex totem is cleansed, the killer receives a loud noise notification on screen, and their perk will then be rendered useless for the rest of the game. So, Hex: Crowd Control, when a survivor performs a fast vault over a window the Entity then blocks that window for 20 seconds. This can be insanely useful for cutting of loops for the survivors, and will often take them by surprise the first couple of times it happens to them.

His second perk is Starstruck. When you pick up a survivor, any survivors that are within your terror radius become struck with the exposed status effect, meaning they can be put from the healthy state straight into the dying state, bypassing the injured state. This effect persists for 26 seconds after the survivors leave your terror radius. This perk has a 60 second cool down after you drop or hook the survivors. This perk can be really useful to get some cheeky one hit downs, but it is totally dependent on how the survivors play. I didn’t really get this perk to work in this video, but I have when I’ve played games using this perk before. It can be really satisfying, but all-in-all it’s not a perk I would recommend using regularly: not with Trickster at least. His last perk is No Way Out. After the last generator is repaired this perk activates. As soon as a survivor touches one of the exit gate switches, they become blocked by the Entity for 12 seconds. Every time you hook a survivor for the first time, this perk gains a token. For every token this perk gains, the exit gate is blocked for an additional 12 seconds. Ideally you want to be ending the game before it gets to this point, but if you are on the backfoot then this perk is pretty good at tipping the game back in your favour, especially if you've already killed some of the survivors.

So that's his perks covered, but what does The Trickster actually do? Trickster is a ranged killer, and is able to attack with a flurry of blades, using his power, Showstopper. He starts with 44 blades, which sounds like a lot but trust me you'll go through them quickly. Holding the power button will allow The Trickster to wind up and enter the throw state. You will then be able to press to attack button once, to throw a singular blade, or hold it in which case Trickster will then being to unleash a flurry of blades. This starts of slowly, but the longer you hold the attack button, the faster he will throw them. Whilst you are in the throw state however, his movement speed is decreased. So what happens when a survivor is hit by a blade? Well, their laceration meter will increase. Once they are hit by 6 blades they will then lose a health state. However, if the survivor has not been hit by a blade for a short time, their laceration meter will begin to decrease. When Trickster has run out of or is low on blades, he can refill them from a locker. Now onto the second part of Trickster's power, The Main Event. Every time you hit a survivor with a blade, The Main Event meter will begin to fill. Once full you will have 30 seconds to activate Main Event before resets, and you will have to full the meter again. Upon activation of this power, The Trickster performs a little animation, and then begins to throw blades at full speed for 10 seconds. This doesn't sound like much time at all, I know, but when you use it properly it can be insanely powerful.

The developers class The Trickster as an easy character to play and master. Whilst I would agree that The Trickster is easy to play, knowing how to play him efficiently is a different story. I say that from experience because I know for a fact, I've definitely lost more games than won with him 😂. I personally think that Trickster relies far too heavily on the add-ons and perks that you use with him. Whilst I did manage to successfully get the adept achievement in my video, I feel like the survivors could have won that game fairly easily if they had made sure that they got the generators repaired quicker. Despite this, Trickster is definitely one of the most fun killers to play as. For me this is down to how his power works, because it feels like you're using a gun, it almost feels like cheating actually...

Well that pretty much sums up my thoughts on Trickster, a fun killer who isn't very strong, until he's accidentally strong because of how the survivors play. If you're interested in checking out my channel or the video, then they're linked down below.

I like the dark atmosphere of this game. I have to try to play this game! A good movie!

Yes! Honestly you have to give it a go. Playing both as the survivor or as a killer is so much fun!

I've seen that this game is pretty popular but I've never played it. I do like it when games have unlocks you gotta grind for though. As long as it's not to bad of a grind like some games that has you spending 300 hours for some small progress.

Yeah it’s quite a fun game to play, I’d definitely recommend having a go!
