Mario Party N64 - Polessins' Review

in Hive Gaming3 years ago (edited)

Hello Gamers around the world ! Hope you are doing great.

Ill make a review about Mario Party 64, and try to explain why in my opinion this is one of the best games ever made in N64 !

It's hard to believe that this title was launched in 1998, so many time ago. I had about 10 years when the game reached Game stores around Brazil. It became quite popular really fast, was pretty much impossible to find it available for rent, but when you were able to find, it was right that you would have an awesome weekend !

The game is based on a serie of mini games, where 4 competitors will challenge themselves in order to capture the most coins possible as rewards from minigames and other challenges in order to buy Stars. Wins the game who have more stars by end of the pre estimated rounds (usually 25 rounds). The match happens in a selected map, there are 5 maps to choose, each one with a different level of difficulty. Each star coast 20 coins. Players will roll the dice in order to see who starts playing, the highest number will play first. There are moe then 45 mini games which will be selected according to the according players position on the map by the end of the round.

So, why i think this game is still really good nowdays ?

The Controls you will be using the whole game are pretty much simple, and respond pretty well.
In most of the mini games you will only use 2 buttons, A and B, lol. a few games you will need to take full control of your character, moving, jumping, pickin up objects, throwing things etc. This games you will end up using the whole controller. Some games you will spin the controller until your hand burn. hate these ones.

4 PLAYERS GAMES are a win itself. It was nice playing with friends, and the combinations of 3v1, 2vs2, and all vs all would make it even better. in one game you will be helping your friend, and 3 minutes later you will be trying to steal all his coins. There was no friends or family when playing this game. Just coins. 1v3 was my favorite one, specially when i was alone. You can win big here.

Games are SIMPLE AND FUN, in most of the games you will need more luck then skills, which makes the game suitble for everyone, even kids who never played it before, could easly end in 1º place. From battling with hammers, kart racing, playing in a band to an obstacle course, there is everything, soon you will find out your favorite mini game, and wish for it every turn !!

CHANCETIME was something very funny this game also had. This would make the game balanced by his own players. It is some sort of a slotmachine, where one player will be able to control it. if skilled enough he might manipulate the boxes, and can steal from coins to stars from any player. But the thing is, if you mess up here, you can end up giving away all your stuff !

UNPREDICTABILITY is something amazing this game have incorporated. Its pretty much impossible to make any plans, since every player in the game can change the way the board goes. From blocking passages, to kicking players out of the lane and sending them to completely other places. To move on the board, you will have to roll a dice, which makes things even more unpredictable. Mini games are also randomly selected. Your favorite game might not even happen during the whole match !

GRAPHICS were not the best compared to other N64 titles, it has a very childish style. Stages and the board aswell looks as simples as possible they could be. There are almost no details at all in the whole game. Still the game runs with a good frame rate, you dont feel like it's lagging even in times where there a lot of things going on, like during some crazy minigames. Kids will generally enjoy it more, some adults may skip the game due its poor and childish graphics.

the MUSHROOM VILLAGE got some awesome features as well, that will make you keep playing the game over and over. For example, we got the mushroom bank, here you can unlock the Eternal Star Board after collecting 100 starts. pretty awesome right ? there is also the mushroom shop, where you can add special blocks to your game, like the slow block, where it will only give the player the numbers 1-3 to move. there are some awesome special blocks aswell, where you can summon random characters, like Bowser =o.
The option house will let you change game settings, like audio and even hear some of your favorite characters from the game and game musics. The mini game house will let you play the mini game you want. its good for practice or if you just want to play your favorite mini game. The Mini game island is a single player mode, where you will go through all the mini games, and by the end you will unlock a special mini game, and you will compete on it against Toad =D (its just a different version from the car derby).
Last but not least the Water Pipe. Here is where you start your adventure. pick your character, your favorite map, the number of turns and lets collect stars !

By the time you stop playing, you will realize this game is really fun despite how simple it is !
Lucky is one the main factors in this game, which make it really fun and suitble to everyone play. i will definitely play this one with my kids, when i have one.

Thank you for Reading and i hope you enjoyed. If you never played this game, please give it a try !

Peace and Love all !

Man, Mario Party is so awesome. The franchise really was at it's best in the N64 era. A shame Super Mario Party for the Switch was so mediocre. It had cool minigames and gameplay but the maps were small and few. Such a shame.

aw thats bad =[. N64 was the last NINTENDO console i had. i switched to PS3..then 4...

but now that i upgraded my PC, i think i will stick with more pc games. But i miss mario party, for sure. all of them were amazing in N64.

I run a PC and a Nintendo Switch. Just have to get a dose of those Nintendo games you know. I have a dusty and old PS4 as well but I haven't used it since Days Gone released.

nintendo games are usually more "fun" to play.
PC and nintendo are a good setup, you are well covered !
my PS4 is off since resident evil 7.. must be 1-2 years already.

Bro, this game is one of the best N64 games, i played it a lot with my friends a long time ago, this post gave me flashbacks that made me happy. ♥

Thanks for reading =)
for more games mario party ! =D

With Mario 64 I could live many nice experiences, not specifically with this version but it was with the Nintendo DS I remember being with my cousins and sister playing for a long time and we really did not get tired, this N64 I guess it was the same, only a few years ago, the truth is that the Mario saga is amazing and everything he has achieved deserves it 100%.

Indeed. Mario Bros franchise are a complete success. Mario World, Mario Kart, Paper Pario, Mario RPG and many other games. all of them really fun to play !

thanks for stoping by =)

peace.
