Enjoying my new DLC map - Emerald Coast, Australia | theHunter: Call of the Wild

in Hive Gaming18 days ago

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

I bought the Emerald Coast, Australia DLC map recently in one of my favourite games, theHunter: Call of the Wild. I am enjoying playing it without going to unreliable online servers and joining someone's server.

Now that I have the map, I can become more familiar with each species and learn about their time zones. This is helpful when you are looking for a specific animal close to water bodies. You can always hope to find easy targets there. One thing I love about this map is the variety of species and some of the open plains, which are great for hunting with long-range weapons like rifles.

I explored more of the northern part of the reserve which was mostly thick forest. This is such a great biome for animals to blend in and hide. There you could implement the strategy of using callers and lure the animals to you rather than you running into them and spooking them because of the sounds you make. These callers attract the entire herd and you can get multiple trophies if you are a bit more patient and use the silent bow and arrows. This stealth approach is sometimes frustrating but very rewarding when you take out multiple deer from the same herd. I once took down four fallow deer like this. It also puts a lot less hunting pressure on that area compared to using guns.

Can you spot some Fallow deer in the screenshot above? They just heard my caller and were attracted to it and carefully coming towards me. It takes them a while before coming close enough to take them out with a bow.

On the eastern side of this forest is the Ruby Coast which is a big chunk of land and one of the five major regions in the map. As the name suggests, it has a coastline on the far east which also makes a natural border for this map. There you find those dangerous Saltwater Crocodiles but there is no outpost close to the coast and I usually use an outpost in the middle of the region and go up to the coast while hunting whatever I can find in my path. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by all the noise and calls from animals. You might be hearing warning or mating calls from multiple animals in this part of the region and it gets tough for you to decide which one you want to pursue.

My favorite animal species to hunt after the Saltwater Crocodile are the majestic Red deer. I wish I had a diamond red deer trophy.

You can find them in big groups as well. One of the need zones is around a big lake on my way to the coast and I spend a lot of time here.

I used the callers to attract them. But there are not enough shrubs to hide you well so sometimes you have to lie down on the ground to let them come real close to you. Look at how close this group got to me.

There are at least 4 of them visible in this screenshot. I was able to kill two of them but then they got spooked from the second shot. I should have been more patient with the second shot but they got too close and would have detected me either way.

Many animals come here to drink and that's when they are the most vulnerable. This lake is big enough to have multiple drinking spots for the same species too and sometimes these herds have a good distance between them that they even don't get spooked by the loud noise of a gunshot.

You can see a big herd of Fallow deer on the other side of the lake. I have to zoom in a lot to see them but you can get closer and take shots where you think you can get them easily.

I always go for the male with the best trophy ratings possible. I am yet to get a diamond from my offline map but I have gotten a diamond goat from one of the multiplayer session before on this very map.

Even if these fallow deer are not as big as the Red deer, they have spotted fur and a crown set of antler which makes them asthetically one of the best deer in my openion.

I love to hunt close to these water bodies and this map has some big ones. I am not even mentioning the huge coastline which is home to some big game like the Crocs and Banteng.

I am happy that I grabbed this DLC map in the sale. Now the sale seems to be over and it is back to Rs. 400 (~ 5$). Hopefully, they will launch a new DLC map soon so the Sundarpatan DLC map will get a good discount next time. Until then, I will be enjoying my time with all the DLC maps I have collected so far. I have bought many of them along with some weapon packs. I didn't want to spend so much on just one game but I guess it was worth it. And you can play all the DLC maps if the occasional connection issues don't bother you much.

Thanks for reading...

Until next hunt...

This map looks incredible. Those close encounters with deer looks intense and I'm surprised to see such a detailed graphic. I mean, look at the grasses.

The graphics of this game are of such high resolution that it looks as if a real animal is lying dead. The deer that has been killed in the second last picture looks a real deer is in front lying down.
