Hunting Lions in Vurhonga Savanna | theHunter: Call of the Wild

in Hive Gaming9 days ago

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

After multiple sessions of hunting in the Yukon Valley reserve and enjoying the snow, I switch back to Vurhongha Savannah to have a change of scenery and animals to hunt. This is an arid climate, nothing like the colder Yukon valley. From aggressive grizzly bears, it was time to shift my focus to African Lions.

This time I wasn't alone and I had a companion. She has become a pro hunter now. Gone are the days when she needed advice—now she's offering it like a pro. Two hunters are always better than one, especially when hunting the dangerous lions...right?

We went to a place which is a hotspot for lion activity at the afternoon. It is a big lake where these beasts come to quench their thirst.

The hunting stands and camps that we set up a long time ago were coming in handy. They served us well as we hopped from one lake to the other to notice if we could find some lions.

Eventually, we found them but they were very skittish and had their senses up. It almost seemed like their senses got some kind of buff and they were aware of our presence even at 150 meters or higher without making much noise.

A large male came to the lake and it was a sure gold trophy. Almost big enough to be a diamond. They are calm when drinking water and have big enough lungs to aim at. We had camps on both sides of the lake, so we can switch to the other side if we want.

Beril had a better angle on it so she took the shot but it seemed like he survived and ran away. Later it came back after an hour or so at the same lake, and then I finished it off.

I would call it lucky to have survived two shots from a powerful rifle even if those shots didn't hit any vital organ. The first shot hit the skull, and then a lot of times. The amount of hair they have around their neck can make it tougher to figure out where the neck ends and the lungs starts. Anystarthe last shot from me was a deadly lung shot which is enough to take down any animal in this game.

Our focus was lions but we were not gonna leave opportunities like this. A herd of gemsbuck coming in comfortable shooting distance and resting? These are such majestic animals.

Look at those long and sharp horns... that beautiful coat and dark pattern on the lower parts and face. I would call them the celebrities of the animal kingdom lol.

We had to get one for our trophy wall..right? But I again forgot to taxidermise this fine specimen.

While waiting for the lions to come back again we saw a Eurasian Wigeon, not in the water but on the land, minding its own business. I don't remember when was the last time I hunted those here. They are harder to spot and even harder to shoot down because of their small size.

Back to the lions! Beril hunted down a female and was busy chasing the wounded lion. She got attacked by them and they killed her. She showed more patience than me.

I couldn't stay at one place, and was always changing positions and hopping around both lakes. I got some good success with lions. Look at this big male.

I found a small group of springbok too. These must be the dinner of those lions. They run quite fast though so I had to show immense patience while getting closer. This time I decided to use the silent bow. It is not completely silent but a lot better than loud guns.

It is not easy to operate though, yo u have to sacrifice the accuracy and the range on these bows are horrible.

I took out one of the females but missed the second arrow. This reminds me of Pronghorns that are found in other maps in this game.

One of the hardest animals to spot and kill in this map is the Side-stripped jackal. They are low in height and smaller animals, so they hide well in the grass here. And they camouflage well in this environment. Look at this shot, how tough it is to spot them apart even at this close.

We ended the session by killing Cape Buffalos, one of our favorite animals to hunt here, just because they can get very aggressive. I killed a beefy warthog too. But this one is not close to those lakes. They are found in the swampy parts of the reserve.

Look at that one, it was a big male which gave me an easy gold trophy. This time I didn't even forget to taxidermize it. I think this is my first warthog that I taxidermized.

At the end, we shot down a couple of lesser kudos as well. Overall, it was a very productive session that started with lions and ended with warthogs, cape buffalos and lesser kudus. So many unique specifics are in this map that it is always a pleasure to hunt here. You will not get bored easily with this much variety.

Thanks for reading...

Until next shot...

Hunting lions, dodging attacks and even bagging a warthog at the end, now that's epic gaming lol. Also, forgetting to taxidermize a trophy-worthy gemsbok would hurt me a lot if I did it

I love to taxedermize everthing I hunt but that costs a few thousand ingame currency, equivalent to 5-6 times the reward of one harvest. So, I am just saving the best of them.

that's a good strategy though

Bro hunting lions is not a joke. They are so clever and always aware of their surroundings. But it was easy for you, wasn't it?

Relatively easy bro. Once you know their drinking spots and timings, you can hide there and wait for them to come to drink. Their first instinct is to run away rather than attacking as well.

Yeap that's right. It doesn’t matter how hard the job is if you knew the strategy. Well played bro 👌

I was just having this crazy thought if you'll go up the lion if its a real life hunt 😁
