Backloggd is a great way to catalog your Gaming Journey!

in Hive Gaming3 years ago

I recently discovered a website called Backloggd. This is a website that lets you log all your games and sort them based on if you've played them, are playing them or if they're in your backlog. You can also add games you don't own to a wishlist. This isn't really something I need but being a bit of a freak when it comes to sorting things I decided to dive into this and journal all the games I've played in my life.

Ironically this kinda turned into a mess. The default sorting on the Played Games is to sort by whichever game was added last. I should probably have anticipated this. Not it kinda looks like all the old games that I randomly remembered as I was adding them are the ones I've played the last while God of War and Elden Ring are on the last page because they were the first to be added.

Oh well. At least there's filters that can be applied to change the sorting. This isn't really a site I expect people to look at to get any idea of my gaming journey but rather something I'm doing for myself.

Selecting Game Status

image.png

One of the features I really liked was that you could choose different statuses to how you've played the game. You can choose to set the game as Completed meaning that you just beat the game in general in whatever way you chose. Most games end up in this category. You can also set them as Mastered if you've completed the games 100%.

My favorite choices are the ones below though. Retired, Shelved and Abandoned. This means that you can catalog a game even if you've only played it for a bit and hated it, "finished" a multiplayer without an ending or if you've quit a game but might pick it up later. I still played the game and I still want it cataloged and they don't get mixed up with your completed and mastered games. Like Code Vein. Ugh.

Some stats...

After logging all of my games I've played over these last 25 years, the ones I remembered at least, I ended up with some stats. There's probably some games here and there that I've missed and forgotten but if that's the case the game probably wasn't that good to begin with.

Apparently I've played 152 games, 3 of them in 2022 and I have 66 games in my backlog. The played games range from games I've mastered to games I've abandoned. There's also some games like Mario Party and stuff that I've played once or twice at a friends house. Those games are categorized as simply "Played".

image.png

I also have 16 games that are currently set to "Playing". These are games that I've started at some point that I didn't finish but I hope or plan to get back to at some point. I guess these are the games that would normally be categorized as "In Backlog" but I thought it was cleaner to use the "Playing" section for this. All of the games here are also tagged as "In Backlog" though.

image.png

That naturally takes us to the games I've cataloged as "In Backlog". Here I chose to put all the games I own that I haven't played as well as the games that are in "Playing". I was kinda depressed at all the games that ended up in this section. I had more games than I thought.

Much of this comes from the fact that I've bought a few Humble Bundles that gave me like six games when I really only wanted the one. And the fact that I've bought some games on sale because I thought I would play them later. I've stopped doing the latter now and pretty much only play games as I intend to play them.

All of this took me about two hours to catalog. It took a bit of work but it was worth it in the end. I've already updated it with a few new games since I did the bulk of the work and I'll keep on doing so as I play new games. What I really hope to so is to make the "Mastered" section grow. Seeing as I need to save money for the new apartment we bought I plan to work hard on this backlog now instead of buying new games. Let's hope I can grow the list!

Never heard of it, but looks pretty useful. I love organization and being able to scan through all of the covers easily.

Yeah it's pretty nice. I stumbled over it while checking out how other people listed their backlog. Didn't expect to go down a rabbit hole like this.

Mine would look like my anime list.

2k games played
20k plan on playing
99% dropped
1% completed
😂

That 1% is what makes me proud though

Haha, yeah kinda depends what and how you log I guess. I could log a whole bunch of games I want to play but decided to mostly list games I own as well as a few wishlisted games.

I'm not sure if I'd want all my hours logged, I might look at it and start thinking things. Then again, I had fun and it's a hobby so there's that :)

You don't have to log your hours played though. I've only done that for games where I know the hours. Luckily I don't have a WoW sub so I can't check how many days I've spent on my characters.

I'm going to hunt you down and slap you for not finishing The Witcher 2 yet xD

Pretty sure The Witcher 2 was the first time I ever saw a naked animated character xD

Haha, I've played it but I put it as playing/backlog because I haven't played both branches of the story. I guess I should log it as played/playing/backlog.

Ah,I forgive you then xD.

It's a completely different story for the most part, depending on who you side with.

If my saves are safe in the cloud I have a save sitting at the point of no return. I need to get to it one day. For now I'm deep in Cyberpunk 2077 though.

How ya liking Cyberpunk?

It's great with some performance issues here and there. Pushing my system to the max with ray tracing on this one. Progress is slow though as I'm mostly sitting in photo mode just photographing people.

that's pretty cool! Looks like a nice way to get thing organised.. out of your head and onto paper.. digi-paper.. :P

I'm curious - what was wrong with Code Vein? xD I saw it on Gamepass at one point and downloaded it, but didn't actually play it.

I think it comes down to me having played so much Dark Souls that any game that tries to imitate it to a certain degree ends up falling short. Combat wasn't crisp. Enemies were either extremely easy or borderline impossible. There's also some balancing issues since the game expects you to play with a NPC companion which trivializes the game a lot.

Ah, okay! Good to know. I'm not really a Dark Souls Extraordinaire... maybe I might like it, more likely I'll get shitty at it after 20 hours of no progress. XD

Damn I like this, then sharing a profile where people can be guided by your activity with certain games. It often happens that on Steam you see that a friend has a game when they may have bought it or got it as a gift and ended up finding it dire. This way you can also see the status of the person, if they left any of them in the middle, etc. Looks quite useful, I'll take a look at it and see how it goes, btw, congratulations on the acquisition of the new department dude!

What I really liked was that I could log all my old games from the SNES and onwards. If you log your games make sure you share your profile!

This web seems pretty good actually. I like too that you can add status to the games. That is awesome!
I may have a lot of "abandoned" but well HAHAHA

Haha, yeah. It's sad to see so many games go in the abandoned section. But that's how it be sometimes. They can't all be winners.

Have they turned this into some sort of social network as well where you can add friends and maybe even talk to others playing the same games as you in a forum where you can ask for advice? Or is it just so you can look at what it is that you have played over the years.... or both?

I'm not sure about the forum but but you can add and follow friends. I did see comment sections on the reviews people write so at least there's that.

Ok, well that's pretty cool. It does seem like a lot of work just to display a collection though :)

very nice library you have there! i would die to play some of the batman arkham, i think at the end of the week i will be able to buy the asylum.

Arkham Asylum was pretty great. I never played any of the others in the series though. The combat was extremely satisfying in Asylum.

Interesting site! Thanks for discoveryng

I absolutely love the idea, I'm the kind to keep a list of everything. Have a funny feeling that mastered part would feed my mildly psychotic wish to 100% complete everything tho 😂😂😂.
