Heroic Raiding Is The Hardest Fun I've Had In A Long Time

in Hive Gaminglast month

Roughly a week ago I mentioned that I had taken down the last boss of the current raid in World of Warcraft on normal mode. The next natural progression point is of course to do the same on heroic mode. I used to do heroic raiding back in the day but it has changed a lot since then, both in term of difficulty and the bosses having more interesting mechanics.

What is Heroic raiding?

In World of Warcraft raids come in four different difficulties. There's raid finder where you're grouped with random people through the dungeon finder tool. There's normal mode which is the baseline difficulty where you need to manually assemble a group of 10-25 players. The raid will then scale depending on how many players you have. Heroic mode is the same but the bosses have more health, deal more damage and have additional mechanics tied to them. There's also mythic mode which is locked to 20 players, no more or no less, and there's even more health, damage and mechanics tied to the bosses. This is of course the hardest one.

At this point I've taken down normal mode. I haven't bothered doing the raid finder difficulty seeing as it doesn't have any rewards tied to and it doesn't really feel like a real achievement to do it. You're meant to just complete faceroll the raid in this mode without having to do much coordination or preparation.

5/8 down

So far we've been able to take down 5 out of 8 bosses on heroic mode. The first two bosses felt like easy mode with no big changes from normal mode. We hit a little bit of a wall and spent around an hour wiping on the third boss and we had the same experience at the fourth boss. The fifth boss however was a right menace. We actually spent two weeks trying to take this boss down.

That's of course not two weeks of straight gaming. I raid with this group Mondays and Fridays for two and a half hours. Broodtwister Ovi'nax requires the entire raid to be in full focus mode and if a single person isn't on top of their tasks it's a quick wipe. It took us a total of 40 attempts to take him down. It was a good feeling when he finally fell.

We're now on to progressing on Nexus Princess Ky'veza. This was the hardest boss in the raid for the world first guilds to take down on mythic mode, but on heroic it's a lot easier. We've only done about five or six pulls on this boss and expect to easily take it down within the first hour of raiding come Monday.

There's a massive ramp up in difficulty once we get to the 7th boss so I expect us to be stuck on that boss for even longer than on Broodtwister. Let's see how it goes. We need to take down the Ky'veza first.

Got any good gear from the raid so far?

I do have full 4-set in heroic track gear. I think most of my gear is in the heroic track now except a few pieces. No gear to blow my mind away yet though.

I remember during BFA grinding out mythics for a chance to get the bag recipe for my character! Took a bit of grinding but I made a shit ton of gold from crafting and selling them.

As a classic Andy I can't help but judge you

Haha! Classic is fun to. Get the urge to go back to it every now and then. Want to try some more of the hardcore mode.

Clip your deads for me, will you? I don't have the stomach for hardcore but by god, the dead compilations on YouTube are amazing
