How I Upgraded My Stream in 2025

in Hive Gaming2 months ago

Some of you know that for the last few years I've been streaming on Twitch on a very on and off basis. I've had a lot of great interactions with a lot of different Hivers in my Twitch char. Some of you have even been with me through entire playthroughs of games like God of War and Elden Ring. Now, at the end of 2024 and beginning of 2025 I've been trying to level up my stream a little bit.

Multi streaming

The first thing I changed about my stream was that I set up multistreaming. This means I'm now streaming to several platforms at once. Those being Twitch and YouTube. On YouTube I'm streaming in both horizontal and vertical, meaning my streams also gets pushed to the shorts stream. This gives me extra reach and higher potential for new viewers, subscribers and revenue.

The reason I chose both Twitch and YouTube is because they're good for different things. Twitch has a higher potential for live revenue while the stream is running. YouTube has a higher potential for discoverability and revenue post-stream. Most of the views and revenue for my streams has come after the stream has ended and when YouTube starts pushing the VOD out into the algorithm.

To multistream I'm using the Multi RTMP plugin for OBS to send my video to both Twitch and YouTube. I'm also using the Aitum Vertical to easily be able to set up a vertical stream and feed it to YouTube. It all required a fair bit of setting up but now I can go live to all three platforms with the click of one button.

Was it worth it?

To me, this was totally worth it. Content creation in various forms is something I enjoy a lot and this is just one way to take a step further. I can now easily stream any game I want when I'm playing it. I'm sitting down to play the game anyways, so why not make content out of it, right? All my streams will also be left up on YouTube with the potential to earn me a few dollars.

The revenue stream isn't extreme, but it's there. Since I started this in late December I've done roughly 20 streams. In that time I've gotten 4000 views on my streams and it has netted me roughly $6 with that number still climbing. Streams I did over a month ago are still slowly gaining views on YouTube and every view is a penny earned. Had I not streamed I would have earned nothing.

Now I should mention that my videos in the same time period has earned my $60. Ten times as much. By this logic I should only be creating videos if I wanted to maximize my earning potential. The issue is that creating videos is time consuming and exhausting at times. I get to play less and have to edit more. With streaming I can basically only play. I'd rather earn less and have a lot of fun, than earn more and burn out and tire from creating content overall.

I'm gonna keep this experiment of multistreaming going for a while and will probably be back with a status update once it's been a few more months.

One of your Live videos got on my YouTube Homepage (not sure if it was Yesterday or the day before, you were playing Nautical Survival) but when I got to it, it just ended. Users like me rarely open Twitch but spend quite a lot of time on Youtube so it was worth having them stream both on Twich and YouTube.

Btw, is this Multi RTMP gonna use double the hardware resources too?

That's cool! I do get a few people tuning in to my streams and they keep on getting views after they end which is motivating.

Streaming to multiple sources is more resource intensive but my 3070ti seems to handle it well.

I've seen how your channel has grown and it's done quite well! Multistreaming is great if you're not focused on just one platform. I really congratulate you and thank you for sharing your experience based on your results bro! by the way thanks for the tips for vertical stream!

Cheers! If you need any help setting up the vertical stream or anything else then just let me know.

Thanks a lot for your comment and support my friend!

Oh wow. I did not know you could stream to the shorts feed. I will have to try this. I will bookmark your post for future reference. Thanks. Also, congrats on the upgrade!

I like to join your broadcasts and chat with you man, it's not possible to do that in the videos and I don't play every game you play. But it's still fun to chat with you. I saw your vertical streams on youtube recently and I was going to ask you about it because I've never seen someone broadcasting horizontally and vertically at the same time. I thought it was a bug.

It always makes more sense to earn less and do what you enjoy. Otherwise you get burnout syndrome. We both experienced this before :P

I didn't know that twitch allowed you to stream in multiplatforms, it's good because at least it has happened to me that I stayed in time and I'm very used to youtube, I have no doubt that new viewers will appear and it will help you to have a greater reach. Good that you are taking advantage of all your resources and time to the maximum.
