Playing The New Horde Mode XL Map For World Was Z

in Hive Gaming7 months ago

World War Z is easily one of the best zombie shooters out there if you ask me. It boasts great replayability strengthened by the fact that the developers are still adding to the game. They've steadily added content to the game over the four year the game has been released. Most recently they added a new map to the Horde Mode XL game mode, so of course me and @emuse had to give it a go.

Putting Arizona on the map

The cool thing about World War Z is that the game takes place in various places around the world. We've been to New York, Tokyo, Moscow, Rome, Marseille and now also Arizona. This was also the location of the last DLC map pack they released so I guess they wanted to expand a little bit on the location.

This map is set at an airport that we have to defend for as long as we can. That's the goal of Horde Mode XL. Survive for as many waves as you can while the waves just keep getting stronger. In between the waves you get time to set up defences and run around the map to look for resources. It's a pretty fun game mode and also a great way to level up your characters and weapons relatively fast. Especially since they have a double XP weekend going at the moment.

This map has us rotating between three different areas just like very other Horde Mode XL map. These areas seem to be much closer to each other than on the other maps. In return they seem to be throwing zombies at us from all kinds of different directions this time instead of having them pour in from only one side. It makes for a more chaotic and dynamic playstyle that I quite like. We need to spread out our defenses more instead of focusing them on only one area.

We played the map a few times and the highest wave we've been able to reach was wave 30. There's 50 waves in total so that means we've made it past the halfway point. At this point the waves of zombies are so big that you need to be really on point to be able to defend yourself. You also have less time in between waves to prepare for the next one which creates even more chaos. You barely have time to heal and put up some walls before they're pouring at you again.

We'll probably be playing this map more to see if we can make it to the big 50 wave. Getting to wave 30 though takes more than 90 minutes so it's not something you can keep throwing yourself at. You need to have time to sit through it all. Luckily there's no penalty for leaving and you still get exp and currency depending on how far you made it before leaving. That does give it a smaller barrier for entry for me.

Hello friend, nice to visit you, to start I have several questions... I have been recommended this game a lot and what you say at the beginning of your post corroborates that info, however my questions would be... the game has a story mode? how many game modes does it have? and a more recent doubt I have is about the perspective, I had seen at some point that it was seen in 3rd person, is that true? I ask because in the screenshots is in 1st person, sorry if i asked too much hehehe 😁

With what you show is a fact that it looks brutal, I will give me the opportunity to try it on the Ps4 🤘... I send you a big greeting and thank you in advance for your answers 🤜🤛... You Rockkkkk!!! 👍😎🔥🎮❤️

You can play both 3rd person and 1st person perspective. I prefer the 1st person perspective personally. There is a campaign to play through that has a story incorporated. It's very much like Left 4 Dead.

All the campaign levels cam be replayed with daily challenges and mutations to give you new challenges daily. There's also Horde Mode and Horde Mode XL which is wave based survival mode.

That map reminds me a lot of one of the scenes in the movie World War Z, where they are in an airport in Israel and are escaping.

I should watch the movie again. I haven't seen it in years. I remember it as being quite mid.

It was visually impressive but the plot was meh at best. I enjoyed the book well before the movie existed, so was a little extra disappointed that it didn't really do the book justice.

Still a fun zombie flick though!
