A few days ago I randomly noticed that a game I've been eyeing for the last few years has finally come to PC. It was originally on most consoles and the developers said they were never going to release the game on PC. Something made them change their mind and Vigor in now available on PC. I had to give it a go.
Chill extraction shooter
Ever since playing Escape From Tarkov many years ago I've been in love with the genre of extraction shooters. The premise is just so appealing to me. You go into a map with a chosen loadout depending on what you have in your stash. You pillage, kill, loot and try to extract with the spoils. If you die you lose everything. It's a brutal premise but it's one that works.
Escape From Tarkov is a great game but it's just so daunting. It's extremely unforgiving and has a very steep learning curve. It's catered towards hardcore gamers. There's been a few contenders trying to take the genre down a step but few ever last long. The Cycle: Frontier was one contender that shut down after barely two years of operating. It's also a game that didn't stick to me. Call of Duty did a game mode based on extraction shooters but that also died away relatively fast. At least I haven't heard talk about it in almost a year or maybe even more.
Vigor has a decent balance I think. It owns up to the general premise of an extraction shooter while at the same time maintaining a fair balance of fairness and forgiveness.
What is Vigor?
Vigor is a extraction shooter set in the northern parts of Norway. Being a Norwegian myself that adds an extra fun dimension to it all. It's made by Bohemia Interactive which are the same devs that has made DayZ. It does run and feel a little familiar to that.
In Vigor take on encounters out of your little Norwegian shelter hut. Here you fight it out with other outlanders over loot. It's a kill or be killed world where the killer takes the spoils. There's a decent amount of different maps to play on and the maps also have randomized encounters on them that change the pace of the game. There's points of interest with extra good loot and there's towers to reveal other players positions and so on. It adds a bit of strategy to every encounter. The big cake that everyone wants is the airdrop that drop once a game. You have to expect a firefight if going for this, but the spoils are usually worth it.
So far I've played for roughly 7-8 hours and I've been having a lot of fun. If you want to see me playing it you can follow my stream that you can find below. I play it every now and then on there.

DMZ isn't talked about much but it still has a good player count! Honestly I prefer that over the battle royale mode!
Maybe I should actually give it a go at some point.
It sucks as a solo player but if you've got someone to play with it's pretty fun.
