Crownrend - What Happens After The Tipping Point?

Hello! It's my third post in the Hive Gaming community!

It has been about one month since I tried out this new game on Hive, called Crownrend!

A quick recap, I actually chanced upon this game and so I paid 10 HBD to sign up for the game!

If you are keen to try this new Crownrend game, here's my referral link (but do read on for my experience as well):

So after close to one month, how has it been?

For those who are not so familiar with the game, it's a game where you are given 9 stats (6 army and 3 domain) where you have to upgrade them from a start of Level 1. Each level of upgrade requires DENAR, which is produced with time and claim-able every 4 hours. Of course, the higher the level of the stats, the more DENAR is required to level up.

So this is how my account currently looks like. Not fantastic after a month, but it's largely due a different strategy that I adopted.

With 23 KP points, I am currently ranked #346. Am sliding down by the day, but that's alright because I am currently playing at my current pace and adopting a different strategy.

For those who are familiar with Hive in general, it's quite expected that new tokens usually start out well and then gradually decline in price. This was the same for DENAR as well. The price of DENAR went from around 0.50 Hive to 0.40 Hive to 0.30 Hive... And at the time of writing, it's currently trading at around 0.07 Hive.

So what I did in the early stages, was actually to sell most of the DENAR that I claimed because I foresaw this same trend happening. As such, I didn't spend all my DENAR upgrading. So far, I have sold about 169 DENAR for 63 Hive, which worked out to be 0.37 Hive per DENAR. With 63 Hive now, I can easily purchase more than 600 DENAR based on the current price. So on hindsight, this was a good move.

However, just when I thought this strategy was doing well, it seemed like many accounts or bots were doing the same thing. As such, Crownrend introduced a new rule such that the account would stop producing DENAR if there was no upgrade every 3 days. This meant that I had to minimally upgrade a stat every 3 days, to ensure that I can continue to claim DENAR every 4 hours.

But after close to one month, I realised that while this new rule ensured that they was some form of demand for DENAR, it had its downsides as well. Higher level of stats required more DENAR to upgrade, and at some point, the DENAR required to upgrade a stat could exceed the amount of DENAR one could claim across a period of 3 days. When that balance is tipped, what's the incentive for the player to spend more DENAR to upgrade the stats?

For me, because of my schedules, I mostly am able to claim twice a day, which would be 6 times across 3 days. Each claim is around 2 to 4 DENAR depending on the conditions, so this means I could probably earn 12 to 24 DENAR every 3 days. So far, the level of my stats is still pretty low so it still makes sense for me to upgrade. But I think sooner or later, I will reach a tipping point when a stat cost more than 12 DENAR to upgrade, and that's when I would have to consider what's the benefit in doing so.

And my worry is not unfounded. Because I think each day, more and more players are approaching this tipping point, and when it makes no mathematical sense to upgrade the stats, then there is no point playing this game (unless you are willing to part with money for the entertainment of the game) because every day would be a loss and there is no way to be profitable at all. And that's why we are seeing the big drop in the price of DENAR in the recent days.

So my personal thought is that the Crownrend team would need to do something to address this issue. It could be a new rule or a new development to the game. Until then, I foresee players giving up on the game once they reached the "tipping point".

So that's my thoughts after 1 month into the game. It started really well but as with all play-to-earn games, it ran into tricky situations e.g. bots, and the new rules which provided a short term fix seem to have opened up another issue.

For those Crownrend players out there, let me know your thoughts or if I have analysed this whole situation correctly or wrongly, let me know too!

With that, that's all I have. Thanks for reading!

Im currently managing to claim about 4 times a day so i am able to do an upgrade a day at the moment. I’m pushing tax efficiency up and may need to work on the vault at some point but I am managing to generate about 6 Denar a claim. !BBH

Thanks for sharing! 4 times a day is very pro! I feel that the vault is not very useful because any DENAR above 3 usually gets raided anyways.

Yeah, I’m normally about 3/4 Denar and raid just before claim to get to 6-6.5

Ah I got it, your attack stats is very high! 👍

I also startet to play Crownrend and try to get my initial investment back at the beginning.

Thanks for sharing! All the best!

Interesting share.
