I've had this game in my library for several months. But as I was focused on other long games, little by little I forgot about it. A few days ago I finally decided to give it a chance, at the time I played the prequel and I found it quite original and fun, so I figured this one would be at least as good.
So, Forgive me father 2 is a Boomer Shooter, a term I just learned about. Basically a boomer shooter is a game similar to the first Doom, that is, a fairly frantic 2D shooter that may or may not have a high difficulty, as well as including extravagant weapons. Curious that there is a genre focused only on this. We will start the game seeing that our protagonist wakes up in an insane asylum. We will see how he remembers the events of the first game that, although I do not remember what the story was about, because I did not pay attention, in his memories we can see the bosses we defeated in the first installment.
When we finish remembering, the game will begin. We will start in the asylum with only a small knife. We will have to advance through the asylum while we encounter different types of enemies, which will not be difficult to kill.
As we advance we will get more weapons, the first one will be a revolver that will not shoot very fast, but it will be quite lethal. Then we will find a shotgun that will be similar to the revolver. All the way through the asylum is a kind of tutorial for us to adapt to the gameplay. Obtaining weapons will not be limited only to this area, as we advance in the levels we will find novelties such as rifles or even mystical weapons.
Once we finish the level, we will return to the asylum, but, when we return we will see that it is a place of peace, there will be no enemies or anyone to attack us, it will be something like our base of operations. Whenever we are in the asylum we will be able to talk to 2 nurses who will offer us different things. One will allow us to improve our weapons in exchange for shrapnel, which we find scattered throughout the levels and another will allow us to obtain special and passive abilities in exchange for a strange essence, which we get simply by playing.
One of the things I liked most in the first game was how the weapons changed when you upgraded them, because the change was brutal aesthetically. Luckily they kept that aesthetic, but the improvements in this case will not simply increase the damage and that's it, we will have different types of improvements that will change our style of play, such as making the shotgun shoot faster, but do less damage or shoot slower, but do more damage. It will depend on us.
The game is difficult. Not so much because the enemies have very complex mechanics or anything like that, but because the healing/armor is scarce and the levels are moderately wide. Also, many times the distance between checkpoints is so great that if you die before reaching the next point, you will be forced to repeat a long path full of enemies. Although as you advance and gain skills, things will become a little simpler.
And speaking of abilities, the first one we'll get will be to activate a kind of fury mode that will give us movement and attack speed, but as we play we'll unlock more, such as greatly reducing the damage we receive for a long period of time. We will also have passives that will give us some advantage such as losing fewer bullets when we miss a shot and other things.
The game has a curious horror component. The first one already had a gloomy atmosphere, but here we will find totally dark areas where we will have to use a flashlight to advance. And obviously in all these dark areas there will be enemies that will try to kill us, either attacking us from behind or surrounding us.
To finish, I have to say that the game looks very good, but very good. I don't know how they managed to do it, but considering that it keeps the same 2D style as the first one, you would think that it couldn't be improved more visually, but somehow when you play this one, you notice a leap at a graphic level, everything looks more polished and detailed. It is a game that, if you enjoy the old shooter style, you will certainly manage to love, although as I said before, the difficulty may be above average, which is not bad, but it is something to keep in mind.

It looks brutal! Is it by any chance a 2K game? More than DOOM it reminds me too much of Borderlands. Even at first glance I thought it was a DLC that I didn't know about. It looks pretty good, I really like this kind of shooters! Thanks for share
No the publisher is a small studio that usually publishes indies. And it's true that the style is similar to Borderlands, although I guess I didn't think about it because I haven't played any of the saga haha 😅.
Ah I see, it looks good! Yes hahaha maybe if I had never played Borderlands I wouldn't have associated it so quickly!
These first person camera angles in any game especially action games, are much scary whenever an enemy appears suddenly. Lol
Game seems so much fun
