In the first game of the Horizon Festival series landed in America, in the second he moved to Europe and in the third he opened his doors in Australia. Not surprisingly, the likelihood of the next continent being Asia was high, as was the expectation of fans who are very familiar with Asian driving culture in general and Japanese in particular.

To the surprise of the cast, Forza Horizon 4 takes the festival to the UK: a puzzling move as the game has already taken place in Europe, although it's important to remember that the United Kingdom is separate from the rest of the continent, even though we didn't visit the UK in the second game. With a small glimpse of the map, a map no larger than the Australian Forza Horizon 3 was discovered, but developers have something to take pride in: Although the map is the same in size, it looks and feels different to my age and the change in seasons indicates that it was built four times. The map includes rural areas, forests and small towns, Scotland's mountains as well as one city - Edinburgh. All of this looks amazing, but it's no surprise: Playground Games, the key studio, is also in the UK, so it seems that the efforts to make the place look good - have certainly succeeded.

Live Horizon

After we were the directors of the festival in Australia, Forza Horizon 4's "gimmick" is "Living the Festival," or in English - Living the Horizon Life. The game lets you play on up to 72 players in a shared world, all experiencing the same season and time of day together. By itself, that sounds like a really bad idea: 2015's Need for Speed was a game that required players to be connected to the server all the time, causing problems and making it impossible to stop the game, even when we were playing alone. Developers seem to have learned from their peers' troubles and are doing it the right way: Although Forza Horizon 4 takes place on company servers, it can be stopped. Also, when one of the other drivers on the server tries to bump into the other, they both become ghosts so no one can intentionally take the fun out of the game. Beyond that, the developer is making efforts to make servers feel alive and shared, and not just a few drivers who do whatever comes to mind. Once an hour, Forzathon Live events will happen to unite players on a shared cause, other drivers can be invited to co-drive, co-race, and talk to them quickly through pre-prepared sentences.

But yesterday was spring

Before we get to the common world we mentioned in the previous paragraph, we will have to go through the first year of the festival, where we will pass through all seasons in a few hours. The motto that accompanies the game is "seasons changes everything", which is the case. The difference between the four seasons in Forza Horizon 4 is more than layers of snow or leaves. In the transition between the different seasons, there are natural sounds in the background that are characteristic of the same season as the animals of this season, as well as the civilian vehicles driving on different roads: in winter, snow levels are seen while in the spring the tractors take their place. In addition, the season-to-season driving experience changes almost completely: the mud is more sprung in spring and fall, while in winter the roads are slippery. In all seasons the lake cannot be accessed, but in winter it is frozen and traveling on it is possible. Thanks to the changes in the seasons, the map feels four times larger and it is likely that the average player will not recognize that he is traveling on the same road, only in a different season.

Improve the existing

The stunts (PR Stunts) and Showcase Events also came to the UK, but the races themselves remained the crux of the experience, and here too was an improvement. The races are now divided into four series: Road Racing, Off Road Racing, Street Racing and Cross Country Racing. As we advance in each of them, more races will open up to us, until we become champions in each series. The division into series corrects the disorder that was on the map in the previous game, giving the player the freedom to decide which races he would like to advance and which he would prefer to keep to the end.

In addition to these, Forza Horizon 4 also added small side missions called "Horizon Stories" which can be made to earn money and reputation throughout the festival. These are cool little tasks: performing stunts for a film director, joining a drift club, renting luxury cars and more. These side quests contribute to the overall feel of daily life at the festival and can easily add hours of fun. Undoubtedly, developers have outdone themselves in out-of-the-box thinking, with a Halo-inspired showcase and party tasks with a video game blogger that throws us back to the games that have shaped the industry.

Forza Horizon 4 is a great racing game. He manages to create a perfectly open racing world experience, with his own DNA and personality. Any car enthusiast who doesn't want maximum realism will fall in love with the game. The game contains great content with loads of events, races, vehicles and along with the combination of changing seasons once a week, I definitely see myself coming back to the game over and over again, to enjoy it and see what has changed, even over time.
