RE: The Forgotten Art of Splitscreen [ENG/ESP]

in Hive Gaming2 years ago

Golden Eye on split-screen was so much. I also used to go to Halo parties with my friend where people we have pretty large matches with connected consoles. There was another game where we always moved winners to the bigger TV and when you played on the smaller TVs and won it was considered an extra sweet victory haha. Good times. Online play makes sense from a business model—forces customers to cough up a lot more money to buy consoles and games and subscriptions, instead of just additional controllers—but playing locally with your friends or family on the couch beside you is an entirely different type of fun than the massive world of anonymous online play.

There's definitely something that feels missing with a variety of games when you can only start playing them online with anonymous people, even with games where its designed to be more of "everybody is at odds at you, go for the best" that are encarnated with the Battle Royale games or settling with whatever you can in team shooter/MOBA games.

Those sure can be more fun if you gather your friends at a call, but when a game does not have a reliable online option, doesn't have online at all, or it might be less cumbersome to just play locally...having good old splitscreen to skip over all that is a blessing that comes with the extra of pure side-to-side banter with your buddies 😂
