Hello Everyone!!
Well, the game I'm about to share isn't something I discovered recently but I decided to talk about it because this game was one of the most creative things I had seen at that time. I also spent a whole load of time on it when I got it.
The game is called Beat Da Beat and it was developed by the indie development team known as 2 Players and it was published by Nekki in the year 2016. It is currently available for Windows and Android
It is a bullet-hell game that is combined with some rhythm game elements where the enemies shoot/move on time with the music. And since it is also a bullet-hell game, there are a ton of bullets to be expected.
The gameplay is pretty straightforward. You control a ship and you have to dodge bullets, destroy enemy ships, and well, not die.
Like I said earlier, the game is mixed with rhythm game elements. So, a lot of things are moving to the beat of the music. The enemy ships shoot on timing with the music, and I liked this detail where your health indicator (Represented by hearts) also beat on time with the music. And there's a dancing guy in the corner, because why not. The EDM tracks used in this game are great too.
It also has different ships to choose from but you have to unlock them. Some can be unlocked with coins while some will only unlock when you complete a difficulty level. Each ship also has a different ability such as being able to slow down time, dealing double damage, etc.
The game uses pixel art graphics which are mixed with an explosive amount of color and various effects and I am very much a fan of both.
One thing that I appreciate about this game is that it makes the effort you put into the game worthwhile. For instance, depending on the difficulty you played on, you can earn up to 4 times more coins than usual on the Badass difficulty, which is the highest difficulty, and you earn the regular amount of coins on the casual difficulty (Lowest difficulty).
I first heard about this game around early 2017. When I saw it that time, I was intrigued because I haven't seen any game that combines bullet-hell and rhythm game elements. It felt unique to me.
It was through this game that I also got introduced to the bullet-hell genre of games (To be honest, this is still the only game I've played under that genre).
As usual, here is some short gameplay footage of the first and second levels of Beat Da Beat by myself:
