Some of you may have noticed that I'm a big Resident Evil fan, in fact I’ve been playing this saga since I had the first PlayStation console when I was a Kid, because of that, a while ago I shared two posts with you, the first one was about some of my favorite installments in the series and the other one was about the ones that I dislike the most, this time I will talk about the three Resident Evil games that I consider to be the closest thing to perfection in the saga, so, ladies and gentlemen, let’s begin.
Algunos de ustedes quizá habrán notado que soy un gran fan de Resident Evil, de hecho llevo jugando a esta saga desde que tuve la primera consola PlayStation cuando era niño, por ello, hace un tiempo compartí dos posts, el primero trataba sobre algunas de mis entregas favoritas de la saga y el otro sobre las que más me disgustan, en esta ocasión hablaré de los tres juegos de Resident Evil que en mi opinión son lo más cercano a la perfección de la saga, así que damas y caballeros, comencemos.
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Have you ever wished during many years for one of your favorite childhood games to be remade? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, well, in my case that game was Resident Evil 2, I remember that the first time I watched the trailer of the Remake alongside my siblings and I could not believe how awesome it looked.
¿Alguna vez han deseado durante mucho tiempo que le hicieran un remake a uno de sus juegos favoritos de la infancia? Estoy casi seguro que la respuesta es sí, bueno, en mi caso ese juego fue Resident Evil 2, recuerdo que la primera vez que vi el trailer del Remake junto a mis hermanos no podía creer lo impresionante que se veía.
When I was finally able to play it, it became my favorite modern Resident Evil game, mainly because I considered it to be almost the perfect blend of everything that I love about the whole saga, starting with a very atmospheric and claustrophobic setting, man, the redesign of the police station and other locations are simply terrific, it also has a good amount of interesting puzzles that are not too complex to solve and the backtracking moments are really well implemented to not make the adventure become boring or tiresome when we have to revisit previous areas (I’m looking at you Resident Evil Zero, lol).
Cuando por fin pude jugarlo, se convirtió en mi juego moderno de Resident Evil favorito, principalmente porque lo considero la mezcla casi perfecta de todo lo que me gusta de la saga, empezando por una ambientación muy atmosférica y claustrofóbica, gente, el rediseño de la comisaría y otras localizaciones son simplemente geniales, también tiene una buena cantidad de acertijos interesantes que no son demasiado complejos de resolver y los momentos de backtracking están muy bien implementados para no hacer que la aventura se vuelva aburrida o pesada cuando tenemos que volver a visitar zonas anteriores (te estoy mirando a ti Resident Evil Zero, lol).
But if there is an aspect that I specially praise about this Remake, is what Capcom did with the Tyrant (Mr. X), this freaking monster gave me more than one scare just by hearing his noisy footsteps around without knowing where he was going to shows up, in fact that scared me on the same level as Nemesis did when I played Resident Evil 3, because both enemies have similar stalking behavior when it comes to the player, and just to clarify, I’m talking about the original Nemesis from RE3 for Playstation 1, because the Nemesis from RE3 Remake is just really underwhelming in my opinion and he did not scare me at all.
Pero si hay un aspecto que especialmente destaco de este Remake, es lo que Capcom hizo con el Tyrant (Mr. X), este condenado monstruo me provocó más de un susto con solo escuchar sus ruidosos pasos sin saber por dónde iba a aparecer, de hecho me asustó al mismo nivel que lo hizo Nemesis cuando jugué Resident Evil 3, porque ambos enemigos tienen un comportamiento similar para asechar al jugador, eso sí, estoy hablando del Nemesis original del RE3 para Playstation 1, porque el Nemesis de RE3 Remake me parece muy decepcionante y no me asustó para nada.
Now, you may wondering why if I consider Resident Evil 2 Remake to be so good in many aspects, it is not in the top spot of my rank? Well, that’s because it has a few important flaws that were not present in the original game for PlayStation 1, and those are big inconsistencies between both characters campaigns that I can’t simply ignore, if it weren’t for that, Resident Evil 2 Remake would have been easily the best game in the whole saga for me.
Ahora, tal vez se estén preguntando ¿Por qué si considero que Resident Evil 2 Remake es tan bueno en muchos aspectos, no está en el primer puesto de mi clasificación? Bueno, esto se debe a que tiene algunos defectos importantes que no están presentes en el juego original para PlayStation 1, me refiero a las grandes inconsistencias que hay entre las campañas de ambos personajes, eso es algo que simplemente no puedo ignorar, si no tuviese ese defecto, fácilmente Resident Evil 2 Remake seria para mí el mejor juego de toda la saga.
Resident Evil Remake
The first time I read something about this remake was in a brief article of a videogame magazine that I used to buy when I was a teenager, at first I was not very interested in playing it because the first Resident Evil game was not among my favorites installments of the series, don’t get me wrong, I do think that the original game is good but I don’t consider it to be a masterpiece.
La primera vez que leí algo sobre este remake, fue en un breve artículo de una revista de videojuegos que solía comprar cuando era adolescente, al principio no estaba muy interesado en jugarlo porque el primer juego de Resident Evil no está entre mis entregas favoritas de la saga, y no me malinterpreten, ya que pienso que el juego original si es bueno pero yo no lo considero una obra maestra.
The thing is that many years later, a cousin lent me his Wii with the game for a week to play it and at that moment I was thinking that it was just going to be the same PS1 game but with better graphics, however I couldn't have been more wrong, because the developers took the original game that I did not like that much, and fixed all its flaws and turned it into a vastly superior game.
El caso es que muchos años después, un primo me prestó su Nintendo Wii con el juego durante una semana para jugarlo, yo en aquel momento pensaba que iba a ser simplemente el mismo juego de PS1 pero con mejores gráficos, sin embargo no pude estar más equivocado, porque los desarrolladores tomaron la entrega original que no me gustaba tanto para arreglarle todos sus fallos y convertirlo en un título muy superior.
Since then and after playing its remastered version several times on my PS3 and PC, which also had some improvements like modernized controls, this remake became the best classic survival horror that I’ve ever played and even made me not want to go back to play the original for PS1 ever again, because it erased that version completely for me, the best thing is that none of the content from the original game was cut, unlike the recent Remakes of RE2 and RE3, instead of that the Resident Evil 1 Remake even had more areas to explore, enemies, puzzles and gameplay mechanics, I think every Remake of a game should follow this formula (I'm looking at you Resident Evil 4 Remake, don't let me down because I have high expectations).
Desde entonces y después de jugarlo varias veces a su versión remasterizada en mi PS3 y PC, las cuales también tienen algunas mejoras como controles modernizados, este remake se convirtió en el mejor survival horror clásico que he jugado e incluso hizo que no quisiera volver a jugar nunca más al original para PS1, porque prácticamente la borró por completo para mí, lo mejor es que en el Remake no se recortó ningún contenido del juego original, a diferencia de lo que ocurrió con RE2 y RE3, en vez de eso el Remake de Resident Evil 1 cuenta con más zonas que explorar, enemigos, puzzles y mecánicas jugables, formula que en mi opinión deberían seguir todos los remakes de juegos que se hagan (te estoy mirando a ti Resident Evil 4 Remake, no me defraudes porque tengo expectativas muy altas).
If you want to know more about what Resident Evil 1 Remake has to offer, I really recommend you to give it a try, because unlike any other classic installments, this game has aged really well.
Si quieres saber más sobre lo que Resident Evil 1 Remake tiene que ofrecer, te recomiendo que le des una oportunidad, porque a diferencia de otras entregas clásicas, considero que este juego ha envejecido bastante bien.
Resident Evil 2 (1998)
Well, I have to tell you that I was initially conflicted about placing Resident Evil 1 remake or the original Resident Evil 2 on the first spot of my list, because Resident Evil 1 Remake offered me a more engaging gaming experience in recent years and I mostly replay the original Resident Evil 2 for the nostalgia factor, however I decided to place the classic Resident Evil 2 in the first spot because it had a greater impact in my life not only as a gamer.
Bueno, tengo que decirles que al principio tenía dudas sobre si colocar el remake de Resident Evil 1 o el Resident Evil 2 original en el primer puesto de mi lista, porque Resident Evil 1 Remake me ha ofrecido una experiencia de juego más atrayente en los últimos años y la mayoría de las veces he vuelto a jugar al Resident Evil 2 original lo hago por el factor nostalgia, sin embargo decidí colocar el Resident Evil 2 clásico en el primer puesto porque este juego tuvo un mayor impacto en mi vida no sólo como Gamer.
You see, the original Resident Evil 2 for PS1 was the first horror game I ever played and made me become a fan of the saga and the survival horror genre, plus Leon and Claire are my favorite Resident Evil characters, I also think that this installment has the most interesting plot of the entire series, because of how it approaches the science fiction genre with an entire city devastated by a zombie apocalypse that also involves drama, conspiracies, corruption, mystery and suspense.
Verán, el Resident Evil 2 original para PS1 fue el primer juego de terror que jugué y me hizo volverme fan de la saga y del género survival horror, además Leon y Claire son mis personajes favoritos de Resident Evil, también pienso que esta entrega tiene la trama más interesante de toda la saga, por la manera cómo aborda el género de ciencia ficción con una ciudad entera devastada por un apocalipsis, incluyendo elementos de drama, conspiraciones, corrupción, misterio y suspenso.
I previously mentioned that the 2019 remake has some big inconsistencies regarding the two character campaigns, well the thing is that in the classic version of the game, both characters histories are intertwined in several moments and fit perfectly with each other, there are even certain decision you need to make with the first character you choose to play with, that affects how some events of the second campaign will be, if that was not enough, the game offers two slightly different versions of the same history for each one of the two protagonists, all these really important features are parts of the reason why I consider this game a classic masterpiece, unfortunately the Remake did not include them and I always wonder if their absence was because of the budget or time constrictions during its development.
Anteriormente mencioné que el remake de 2019 tiene grandes inconsistencias en cuanto a las campañas de los dos personajes, bueno la cuestión es que en la versión clásica del juego, las historias de ambos personajes se entrelazan en varios momentos y encajan perfectamente entre sí, incluso hay ciertas decisiones que debes tomar con el primer personaje con el que elijas jugar, que afectan cómo serán algunos eventos de la segunda campaña, por si fuera poco, el juego ofrece dos versiones ligeramente diferentes de la misma historia para cada uno de los dos protagonistas, todas estas importantes características son parte de la razones por las que considero que este juego es una clásica obra maestra, lamentablemente el Remake no las incluyó y siempre me pregunto si su ausencia se debió a limitaciones de presupuesto o tiempo durante su desarrollo.
Another important reason why I consider this Resident Evil game so especial, is because It motivated me to start learning English since I was a kid, in fact I remember that I initially did not understand the plot of the game or what I had to do to solve its puzzles because of the language barrier and I often used a dictionary to translate the information that I was obtaining through the adventure until I manage to finish it after playing it for several months, man, at that time I did not have internet and Youtube did not even exist, lol.
Otro detalle importante por el cual considero a este juego de Resident Evil tan especial, es porque me motivó a empezar a aprender inglés desde pequeño, de hecho recuerdo que al principio no entendía la trama del juego o lo que tenía que hacer para resolver sus acertijos debido a la barrera del idioma y muchas veces usaba un diccionario para traducir la información que iba obteniendo a través de la aventura hasta que logré terminarlo después de jugarlo durante muchos meses, queridos amigos, en esa época no tenía internet y Youtube ni siquiera existía, lol.

Yo también soy fan de la saga, en mi caso, de los clásicos, mi preferido es el juego 3, es una pena que su remake sea una bazofia, mi segundo preferido es el 4 (con el remake estoy por las nubes, esa casi imposible que lo arruinen, el showcase y los gameplays y la demo nos lo han demostrado)
Creo que Resident Evil code veronica también es un juego divertido y muy bueno aunque infravalorado. Muy buen post!
Los Resident Evil clásicos son los que más me gustan, el Remake del 3 a mi también me decepcionó, RE4 es otra de mis entregas preferidas (por cierto ya pude jugar la demo del Remake y esta genial xD)

The classic Resident Evil games are my favorites, RE3 Remake also disappointed me, RE4 is another of my favorite installments (by the way I played the demo of the Remake yesterday and it's great xD).
