Maybe I am just older and prefer that there be a bit of a learning curve but not something really hidden that you have to figure out in order to get along in a game.
I agree with this on most cases, like, there are games where I like to tryhard my way up, but sometimes I just want a game where you can learn for yourself with a nice difficulty curve and not having to look for far-fetched solutions on guides or whatever, or VERY SPECIFIC BUILDS (fuck that), like you say, on this cases is like "oh this mf is weak to ice and very strong to fire?", > me with my best build being full ice attacks and being obliterated by any little flame, I haven't played POH2 but it's an example with other games where this happened to me lmao.
I didn't know POH2 will be F2P in the future, sounds like a nice game and it will be free? where's the catch? askjasa, I would like to try something like this, I've never played these kind of games but they always catch my eye, maybe you can recommend me one for newbies? like Diablo 2 or something similar? I don't know much about this kind of ARPG haha.
I will never enjoy a game that requires very specific builds, especially in a game like this one that has a skill tree with millions of possible build types.
Path of Exile 1 was free to play and the idea behind this one was always going to be the same thing. They make a ton of money off of people buying cosmetics, inventory tabs, and other such things that make the game easier. I don't know how much a game maker can make off of selling a game for full access, but the makers of Path of Exile pulled down around $100 million a year for about 8 years, so yeah, free-to-play definitely can make a ton of money.
It's not going to be free for at least another 6 months, at the moment it is $30 but if you are playing it on PC that $30 is credited to the online store.
Honestly, if I had something else that I was really enjoying I wouldn't play this. I don't like games that never end and that is exactly what this is. Also, unless you are very lucky and have a seriously good internet connection, it is plagued with connection issues like rubber-banding, auto-pausing, and general lag.
