A Gamer's Christmas: It's All About Paying it Forward

2021 - a year where I guess most of us have spent most of our time trying to recover from what was lost back in 2020: lives of loved ones, jobs and work opportunities, businesses, and even basic needs like education and healthcare. We are all affected someway or another, in a negative perspective. But, when I look at it at a gamer's perspective, it becomes somewhat different... perhaps, "convenience" is the term that I'd say I use. Why? The way the protocols and restrictions placed on areas affected by the pandemic forced people to stay indoors ( gamer's favor? check!). Transactions became more non-contact and mostly online basis, especially with food deliveries and other stuff (gamer's favor? check!). And, the influx of NFT games became the focal point of most "gamers", casual or serious/professional, in a sense that there is an opportunity to "earn additional outside of income" as you stay at home and tend to the needs of either your 'work-from-home' obligations, or the needs of your family (gamer's favor? check!).

I guess many of you reading this article right now would probably ask: "If this is a gamer's wish, then why is it that the author is not mentioning it?". Well, I'd probably start with recalling some events that happened in 2021:

I discovered the existence of Splinterlands when I was researching for a "cheaper alternative" of getting into the NFT Gaming genre back in July. As I slowly started to invest my time on it, I grew fondly on how my initial investment did managed to be profitable by the end of the month. I also started to research about what the Splinterlands community is all about, then I discovered Splinterlands had its own blogging site where you can earn extra NFTs (SPT) that can boost your airdrop points for SPS in Splinterlands. So, I did manage to write some posts and definitely, people were reading it. Then came a scary incident around September, where I encountered Dengue and Covid conditions and became detrimental with my health, which was not really good, since I had a near-stroke back in November of 2020 (which sadly drained most of my financial savings). It was with selling my cards and DECs that I was able to get additional money for my hospitalization. Recovering from this ordeal, I slowly realized on how understanding the block chain system, the NFT market, and the games/activities associated with it can help save and change lives. Right now, I have encouraged my student writers to make essays to help create a fund drive to help our community, including those who were affected by the most recent typhoon, Rai.

As a gamer, I can wish a lot of things this Christmas, but as I near the age of 40, and as I look back at the fond memories of my gaming life (the first time I've played on a gaming console... Nintendo Family Computer was Christmas of 1987). Perhaps, I now seek a greater purpose of gaming, especially now that students who are into PC/online/console gaming ask me the usual questions of how to balance their studies and gaming lifestyle. Parents of my students would thank me/praise me for making their child understand the principles of proper time management. All I wish for is for more people to understand that NFTs, or the Cryptoworld, in general, is something that they should not be afraid of, should not be afraid to invest in, and should be open to the opportunities and benefits that awaits. My wish, not only for this Christmas, but for a long term goal, is for me to help set up an education system or campaign to teach traditional gamers and people who are just curious, to invest into NFT games and activities. Somehow, I know down the line, one might be in the same predicament as I was going through, and having an invaluable investment like this can help drastically.

As I type in my final thoughts, I just hope and pray that whoever reads this essay may be moved to do his/her part to pay it forward. I guess that would make the entire activity more meaningful: to share his/her light to others so that others may do the same.

Cheers and a Blessed Yuletide Season to All!

Paying it forward as a concept is a really cool idea. We first came in contact with this doing our Around the world trip a couple of years back. If everyone had at least heard about it the world would be a better place. Thanks for sharing 😀

Thank you for reading my essay article! And yes, a world that knows how to pay it forward definitely is a world full of positivity. Cheers and Happy New Year!

Honestly where am from, am hearing so much negative buzz around NFT yet am curious as to whether I should get into it or not. This was a good read tho.

Yes, whether the mindset is "it is deregulated/not governed by any bank" or "it's used for money laundering", amongst other so-called 'reasons', I'd still stick to that wish of making an educational platform, that not only can be implemented in Entrepreneurial curriculums for education, but also as a primer for any ordinary Joe, Nick, or Larry who'd want to be properly educated in the Blockchain system and everything that revolves around it... Cheers and Happy New Year!

I agree, nothing's perfect but the main goal should be to help others be the benefactors as well as yourself.

In return, everybody will get what they want

It would mean a whole lot to the scene if more people knew about the opportunities in crypto and NFT gaming. More of my friends are starting to get it and want to get involved but it's taken almost a year of nagging. We'll see if I can finally get them to join Hive.

Also, I noticed you're a teacher. You're welcome to check out the Teachers's Lounge community. It's smaller than the Education community but with a different focus. While Education is more about education in general the Teacher's Lounge is about your life and experiences as a teacher. No pressure though :)

Nice to hear a fellow from the academe! Thank you for reading my entry! Well, I think that's why we go out of the box to be able to help educate others, especially teachers who are financially struggling to make ends meet during these rebuilding times.

And yes, I will gladly check out the Teacher's Lounge community and contribute something significant! Cheers and Happy Holidays!
