Been a few days since my last blog about how to take control of your bitcoin in less than 10 minutes. Today I'd like to introduce you all to a game I've been playing for the last year on the WAX Blockchain.
ZOS - Zombie Outbreak Survival
Zombie Outbreak Survival - ZOS is a 2D browser MMORPG developed on the WAX chain. ZOS takes place in the town of Nitel during a Zombie outbreak and follows survivors as they scavenge, fight and eventually rebuild in a post-apocalyptic world.
I've been playing the game since Era1 which consisted pretty much of you sending your survivor armed with a weapon and shield on scavenger runs to horde food and, if lucky, find more gear. At that point the game had basic mechanics such as healing your survivors or blending multiple weapons shields to a higher rarity.
In Era2 the team introduced multiplayer scavenger runs. The first of their kind on the WAX blockchain. In MP runs you add your survivor to a team of three, add weapon and shield and you go scavenging for ZILVER, the game's fungible token. MP runs also have a chance of dropping gear but outside of events the odds are pretty low compared to 7 day solo runs.
With Era2 the team also added an in-game store where players can purchase upgrades, med kits and other items for ZILVER and the WAX NFT market was added through Nefty's marketplace API.
Overall I have to say that the ZOS journey up to this date has been a positive experience for me and I also believe that the team is writing some of the best smart contracts on this blockchain and, very rare for wax projects, they've stuck to their roadmap up this day. Which brings us to...
ZOS Era3 - Dropping Saturday Dec 10!
Finally! Tomorrow ZOS will enter Era3 completing another major milestone on their roadmap by introducing boss battles and the heavily anticipated crafting system and I'm super excited for Era3 and if you were around for the early days of Rplanet then you already know where we're going with the crafting. But let's look at battles first.
Battles
A new game mode where players submit their survivor, a weapon and their BEST shield into a loadout and venture out in search for evidence that rumours about Mutant bosses were true. The plan is simple, find the Bosses, slay them down and steal their loot.
Battles allows the player to play ZOS on demand and removes the need to wait for long periods while their Survivor comes back from their Supply Run.
Weapons are now categorized into their attack styles; Assault, Assassin, Overwatch. The attack style is important when you encounter a boss, if the environment is favourable to your attack style, you will deal more damage to the boss. If the environment is unfavourable, you can attack anyway or run away. The main rewards from Battles are Resource Tokens. Resource Tokens are used to craft new items.
Scrapping
Scrapping is a new game mechanic which will allow players to scrap low quality gear items for resource tokens which can be used for crafting. Previously players could blend stacks of unused gear to higher rarities. Now players will have the choice to upgrade gear or scrap it for resources.
Crafting
Probably the most anticipated feature in Era3 and as mentioned above, if you know Rplanet you might get a tat excited here. Crafting is a new game mode that allows players to "channel their inner scientist" and attempt to invent new items never seen before in ZOS and big rewards await inventors as the grind their way through 69 recipes to be discovered. (69 confirmed at the time of writing this).
Crafting features a 9 box crafting matrix that players can fill with different elements, blueprints or crafting tools to try attempt new inventions. Presenting player with millions of combinations to invent new items AND the ingredients must be added in the correct order for an attempt to succeed!
Crafting will be the key to levelling up in ZOS while preparing your survivors for future eras & building releases!
Last words
If you're venturing into WAXgaming or if you're on WAX then you should definitely check out ZOS, DYOR and perhaps join me and my friends who're already playing. Like mentioned I believe that ZOS is one of the best projects on WAX and I've been in many of them. 90% are "NFT blending simulators" dropping tokens with no utility and slow development. 10% are dead or about to die because "OMG it's bear markets fault" which leaves 10% and ZOS is one of those in my opinion.
Assets on WAX are also dead cheap right now for almost any project. I guess that's really the bear market so it's a perfect time to branch out a little across blockchains to check out some web3 gaming projects. For example, a ZOS survivor is about 100 WAX on the secondary market atm or $5-$6, My first survivor cost me $42 around this time last year. So yeah, NOW is a good time to get assets for projects on WAX.
In addition due to the very low supply of ZILVER and the fact that players will have to accumulate resources before crafting I expect the inventing process to be very slow. Sure, some basic recipes will probably get discovered in the next few days but then there is either no more ZILVER or resources.
Let's take a look at ZILVER on Alcor.
If we look at ZILVER on Alcor it's pretty much first come, first served with literally no WAX on the orderbook below 1:1. To get an idea of the scarcity of ZILVER, I've been running 5 survivors in MP runs for the entire year since the game mode was released and I'm only holding 5,000 ZILVER at this moment in time.
Since the announcement of the ERA3 release date the token has seen a 600% price increase.
As you can see. ZOS's economy is only getting started and again, now is a good time to get involved. Jump right into Era3 for the best possible start into crafting and levelling. Will you get rich and drive a Lambo? Yeah right... will you have fun and play a browser game that is actively developed in which you own your digital assets and earn some? Yes, absolutely.
I almost forgot
I didn't but I've kept this for the end of this post. I'll be showcasing ZOS tomorrow on Twitch and Trovo and I'll be giving away 5 starter kits. 5 out of 88 remaining on the official in-game store, priced 250 WAX each.

I find it quite interesting, I've played games of this style and they are usually fun although the ones I've tried after a while become repetitive. Good post

I agree with you. Some of these browser based NFT games usually see an early hype and then become slow and, as you've said, repetitive after a while. I mean if we look at ZOS I've done nothing else but run my survivors in SP and MP runs for the last few months just stack food and Zilver. Not the most exciting "gaming" but development takes time and looking at Battling and crafting now, glad that I've been stacking because refilling stamina and health isn't cheap :)
