One or two week break to play some retro gaming consoles and have some time to myself - Good for the mental health

Playing some retro consoles to unwind

Those of you that remember back to my older gaming posts and series I have done, will know I love my retro consoles and games and the nostalgia that comes with them.

I just enjoy them a hell of a lot more than the newer games and currently have setup/part setup in my home office.. a Super Nintendo, a Nintendo 64 and a Playstation 2 along with my desk drawer having my brick grey Gameboy.

Currently for the SNES I have Super Mario World + Super Mario All Stars, Donkey Kong Country 2 Diddy Kongs Quest and Bubsy. For the N64 I have Quake 2 and Command and Conquer. The PS2 I have around 8 games, some include The Godfather, Scarface and Yugioh Duelist of the Roses.

I don't get the chance to play these often enough let alone get on my computer and it makes it hard for me, really.

Actually just last night I sat down to play Super Mario World instead of extra blogging and it felt really nice and I plan on doing some more likely tonight!

Why the break?

All it feels like I do right now is constantly work and do things around the house which stops me from getting on the computer to do more blogging sooner, or that I am barely managing to keep up with the few series between Fallout 4 survival mode with mods, Skyrim with mods and Pokemon Blue with some slight random tweakings to the game and I needed a break.

I also want that time spare when I am not doing any work or house work etc, so I can sit to play the physical retro consoles I have which will really boost my mental health for a short while as well.

I have felt like my mental health has declined a lot due to being in a rental as well, having additional costs and having to find cheaper ways of getting more food or earning extra off the blockchain.

Additional plans next year

Another couple of reasons I want to adjust what I do it so I can start playing new games on my list, but not make a series so I am not tied down and can make posts still.

But also I am wanting to get back into Unreal Engine 5, slowly start making a game possibly in VR or non VR, as I really enjoyed what I have done in the past on this and have some ideas on some of what I want to make.

Creating self-learning AI or other things I am interested in learning, is also on the list. Most importantly is to start just enjoying that relaxing time which includes additional family time while still posting here, when I am able to.

Sort:

I have the PS2 slim version, I really like its hergonomics, but I must admit that I would like to try the original version of the console, I think it would have less technical flaws than the slim version.

I don't know if you can insert a hard disk in the original version?but it's great that you made this post. Best regards.

The slim was nice as well, but I like the chunky one and I have had this one for about 20ish years after I bought it off my older brother.

Hard disk, is that a slot at the back for it? I think I remember a slot that was never used but didn't know what it was for 😅

I'm surprised that PS still works... Those things were notorious for having issues with the disc drive. It's fun to see retro systems though, I got rid of all of mine years ago and I kind of regret it.

Love the VHS/DVD combo. I don't even have a DVD player anywhere in my house let alone a VHS player. Does it still work? Do you actually have VHS cassettes?

It definitely works mate and well too!
I feel that regret, except that my parents didn't keep any except an N64 my sister sold eventually. Glad you enjoy seeing the retro systems.

I haven't tested the DVD/VHS combo, but I think it works, was at my partners nannas farm so it was setup and I got the cleaning kits for it too.

I did buy some VHS tapes from an op shop a couple years ago. Best one is Home Alone and got some Indiana Jones and a few other movies. Keen to fire it up at some point!
