This is a play through of Pokemon Blue by using RetroArch to emulate the game. I am randomising the Pokemon in areas with similar strength so it isn't completely randomised, while choosing three starters of similar types
The trip to Celadon City is a tougher road
As Goliath leaves Lavender town after the residents were talked to, he decided the mystery around Pokemon Tower and its ghosts required some preparation in order to get through it okay.
He fights against a Lass and her Squirtle and Eevee relaxing in the sun, just outside of the town. Squirtle's bite and moves were a good hit on Wartortle but the strength just wasn't quite enough to secure the victory.
The Eevee on the other hand was no match at all, for the body slamming power of the might Grimer!
It was easily able to weaken it down low enough that only one pound was needed now, to ensure this Eevee was taken out and the level difference just made this possible.
The trainer Pokemon at times were now, starting to get a bit tougher with their levels being closer to the mid 20's like this Gambler and his Doduo and Sandshrew.
Both were at level twenty four with Dratini taking the stage for some bubblebeam action, but it was the Sandshrew's slash which got to hurting Dratini the most.. it took out almost half its health with one hit, the Doduo had just gotten a small amount done from using peck. Sand is not good against water though and this is where Sandshrew also, had to say goodbye.
Just up a bit and after using cut to get into this grassy nearby, well it wasn't very good for what Pokemon were available and didn't interest Goliath. The Krabby could have been caught but he didn't bother, then there was a Zubat and Pidgey but again they were of no interest.
Some exciting battles were hoped for and one Super Nerd had a Psyduck which was nice to see and a Sandshrew as the last choice was nothing too special due to Dratini.. Golbat though was pretty strong and even confuse ray didn't let Grimer get hurt and screech was a bad choice, it withstood a thunderbolt for the first hit to not defeat it right away!
Again with the trainers having Pokemon closer to the mid 20's was making things more exciting and tougher for Goliath's Pokemon that weren't the Grimer.
Ditto transformed into Wartortle but lacked the strength which gave Wartortle experience to hit level twenty three, before the lass brought out a Farfetch'D to be thunderbolted down by Grimer with ease.
Another better leveled Pokemon but weak to the bubblebeam was a Vulpix which with boosted speed and other stats, could be a lot more formidable.
Goliath went through facing a couple more trainers before seeing a little cottage which he heard might be the underground tunnel into Celadon City, but he faced off against this Gambler first.
The Doduo got Wartortle good but once defeated and the following Geodude defeated.. Wartortle got to level twenty four, forgot tackle to learn bite and it was time for a Grimer vs Hitmonchan face off!
Comet punch came out in a flurry of blows to Grimer and a small amount of damage due to the higher defence, body slam came out in force and paralysed the Hitmonchan, allowing another to be used right away to avoid Hitmonchan's speed and then this fight was all done for.
One final battle would not take long for they were all water type Pokemon and Grimer was going to have a field day with them. Shellder, Seel, Squirtle and Omanyte were the choices and would definitely be a strong team normally, thunderbolt tore through them all and it was just so unfair but this is battling at its finest, Grimer would take nothing less than victories.
Finally after so many exhausting battles and a couple of trips back to the Lavender Town poke centre, Goliath reached the underground tunnel and traveled through it, not stopping until he was able to stand in Celadon City and heal up from these last fights and explore the town.
