Super Mario 64 DS is a video game remake of the N64 edition made for Nintendo DS. However, unlike the first version, they are more than 13 years apart, so we can expect great graphical improvements and gameplay embodied in its actuality.
When game starts, it will not start precisely with the plumber but with the pet Yoshi, it will be the first character with which you will be introduced to this three-dimensional adventure. It actually sounds strange, because you see Mario on the cover and I imagine that the first thing that comes to mind is to use him in the first second.
The controls cause me constant discomfort, especially the camera. You can tell that this game was not originally designed to be played on this portable console, it is a remake of a desktop console. The movement of the characters, on the other hand, is smooth and pleasant, even if you don't have a dedicated joystick as the N64 does. Don't get me wrong but the camera hinders the gaming experience. So in theory the biggest advantage I see is to carry Mario in your pocket and play wherever you want. The conversion was wrong, even the touch part is useless and doesn't improve. In spite of everything, they added new characters that did not appear before, such as Wario, he is a born fighter in the melee, he can transform into metal, but he is somewhat slow and his jumps do not stand out. Yoshi eats the enemies, producing eggs as weapons, he can also throw flames. The textures no longer have those annoying bottlenecks. In this videogame the worlds are basically divided into squares, as you get the stars they are unlocked.
You will no longer go around linearly, you will always be able to go right and left, but now you can move freely through the various landscapes. You will have to explore all the spaces and acquire all the hidden stars. You can't enjoy Mario's abilities because you are still Yoshi, but you can enjoy Mario's abilities because every character has them, and that's what makes them unique and necessary. After getting the necessary stars and rummaging around a bit, we find a picture of Mario and after a small fight with Goomba, we manage to take the key from him. You enter one of the rooms you frequent most, then there is a door with the capital M of Mario. By doing so, you can unlock the character. There is no way around it, Bowser is still there and has kidnapped the princess, so we head there after getting more stars. Being Mario you get the ability that Yoshi never had, the weapons will be: kicks and fists.
I assure you unlimited fun, however what I said before dictates that the best version is the original one, simply because it would be necessary to change/alter situations of the concept that worked to implement them in this system that a priori is different.
