Dream job at CD Project Red? Maybe not!

How much money do the employees at CD Projekt Red make, especially when they have to go through a crunch phase like the current Cyberpunk 2077? A former employee explains it.

It cannot currently be said whether this information is really correct. In any case, the person claims on Twitter that he was a full-time employee at CD Projekt Red, working on facial animation for a big game. It is claimed to bee back in 2014.

According to the person, she was getting the equivalent of 430 USD a month. She worked in Poland and was paid in Polish zloty. Allegedly she couldn't even pay the rent of her small two-room apartment with this income. Her husband had to pay for the rent. The apartment was not in the center of Warsaw at all.
Therefore, she said about the statement by studio boss Adam Kiciński that the crunch in Cyberpunk 2077 is not so bad that it comes from a person who owns 70 million dollars in shares in the company.

How much truthfulness there is in these statements, of course, cannot be said. However, in the current situation it does not cast a good light on CD Projekt Red. The company is already grappling with severe criticism due to its crunch policy. The fact that more is being added and an ex-employee speaks of poor pay does not help to improve the image of the developer studio.

The reactions to her statement are correspondingly.

Cyberpunk 2077 appears after a postponement of the release date on December 10th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

I don't think that the company was too big back in 2014, though. If I'm not incorrect they had their big success from whitcher 3 that came out 2015. Nevertheless they have gathered a bunch of shills because gog.com had money back from regional price difference policy and they have been actively promoting their no micro-transaction policy (even though gwent) and other we respect gamers and workers populist bs and everyone fell for it.

Though I'm young I've learned that alot of the time people just scream stupid shit how someone is making so much money, but business is not that easy. It is obvious to me that making a video-game gets it cost from producing it whilest distribution is trivial, and for this making profit per game distributed is easy, but getting over that initial production cost is not, and for that companies need to price their games high in developed countries and cheap in poorer countries. Video-games are projects, not manufacturing.

Yeah, making games is neither easy nor cheap. GTA 5 is beeing estimated to have cost up to 265 million dollars. That's an insane risk a company has to make. And you don't get a single penny out of it until it's done.

But yet, CDPR always was seen as "the good guys" of game dev. They even promised (twice) to avoid crunch times and delays.
Reality struck them hard.
