Because it started snowing, or rather raining, we went to the nearest cafe from where we were. We’re in Atami last weekend to see the early cherry blossoms in this area, and while we were enjoying the spectacular view, it started snowing. The snow turned to rain as it’s about to reach the ground. Not too cold to let it pile on the ground.
Anyways, we didn’t expect the rain, so before it got worse, we decided to have our afternoon snacks. Actually my friends were now looking for their coffee.
We found refuge at Atami Cafe. Funny because the name of the town is Atami and they just added cafe to their name. Well, it was a cozy little cafe and I like it!

Just look at how nice their wallpaper is! I only took a portion of the wallpaper but it’s actually showing some trivia of Atami.
We came at the right timing! More customers came in after us, so we were able to choose a seat near the window. It was also near the door so everytime it’s opened, my friend would get cold. 😅 It’s still winter here after all.
I have decided to have cakes, and they have a lot of options. It’s not on their menu so I had to come and check what’s on their display. I was debating to get the mousse and the shortcake - both with strawberry. It’s strawberry season and I shouldn’t miss it! I settled on the strawberry shortcake 🍰.
The strawberry shortcake was so soft!! And the strawberries were so delicious and sweet. They made the cake so good I couldn’t stop eating it. It melted on my mouth! Arrghh just thinking of it makes me want to have it again.
My friend got a cheesecake, and weirdly enough it came with salt on the side. My friend said the cheesecake was like the New York Cheesecake of Starbucks, not too sweet, just the right amount. I guess the salt is when you want to reset your palate.
I got myself a hot fuwafuwa chocolate. Fuwafuwa (ふわふわ) means fluffy, and it just reminded me of fluffy pancakes that I love. I was also curious what makes this drink fluffy. It was this snow white cream! It made the drink more fun.
Another friend even ordered a hot plum drink, which made me think of the alcoholic drink but don’t worry, this wasn’t the alcohol kind.
Our table was full of cakes and hot drinks. And of course it was also full of our never ending conversations whenever we’re gathered like this. My friends were reflecting their trip here in Japan, and now that they’re going back home the next day, they couldn’t help but look back. They’ll come back on Spring though, so it’s only a month or so that they’ll just be at home. LOL
It was a fun afternoon break, especially when with friends. I’m a bit happy we found such a nice place in Atami.

That Atami Cafe with its beautiful view at the cherry blossoms looks like a cozy place to stay. The food looks yummy and delicious. Especially the pics of the strawberry cake and the hot fuwafuwa chocolate make me really hungry! 😋
