I notice slowly slowly spring is coming. The temperature reaches more than 10 degrees these days. I wake up earlier and feel like going out to balcony or even taking my bike for 1h ride to see how the community garden is doing.
In my balcony, some bulbs popped up too early in December last year and some of them died. But those stayed in the soil now come out and they look quite strong. I look forward to see Narcissus, Alliums and Tulips in the upcoming spring.
Since it can be still too cold to sow seeds directly outside, I started with spring onions. You can regrow them with the bottom parts. I buy spring onions time by time and have some backup on my balcony. Spring onions are essential for Japanese cooking 😁
In my workspace, peppers are starting. I found something pops out from one of the seeds I sowed last week. Other seeds gets fluffy and there is no mold so soon many more will have roots.
A heat mat I ordered arrived and now the seeds are safer than being on heating.
Now I have 12 chili varieties to grow this year ... I didn't expected to do that much but that's gardener and gardening 😉
In addition to chilis and I sow broad beans, which is also todo for February. Only eggplants are left. I also started Japanese edible chrysanthemum and spinach. The chrysanthemum seeds are my own seeds I took last year.
This week I set up two shelves to keep the entrance of our apartment organized and keep some plants.

ここ数日、気温が10度を超える日が続いて少しずつ春が近づいてきている気がします。早起きになり、ベランダに頻繁に出るようになり、自転車でコミュニティガーデンの様子を見に行きたくなります。
昨年12月に気温が上がった時に芽を出してしまった球根の中にはいくつか枯れてしまったものがありましたが、土の中にとどまった球根が最近顔を出し始め、元気なようです。菖蒲が生き残っていて欲しいのですが、位置からして水仙やアリウム、チューリップは大丈夫そうで、春に花を見るのが楽しみです。
外に直接種を蒔くにはまだ寒いので、長ネギの再利用から始めました。ネギは下の部分を残しておいて、一晩水につけて、土に植えると結構な確率で定着します。お店で買うのがメインですが、買い置きがなかったり、新鮮なものが無かったりで、バックアップをバルコニーで育てている感じです。
仕事場では、唐辛子が発芽し始めました。先週まいた種の一つから、芽なのか根っこなのか飛び出しているのを今朝発見してうれしかったです。他の種もふくらしてきて、カビなど生えていないので、もうすぐでしょう。
注文していたヒートマットが届いたので、唐辛子の種を入れているケースを無事暖房の上から移せました。これで家族に倒されたりする心配がなくなりほっと一息です。
無事全種類発芽すると、今年は12種類の唐辛子を栽培することになりそうです。こんなに増えるとは思っていませんでしたが、これ、毎年のガーデニングあるあるです。
唐辛子の他に空豆もまきました。今月まきたい種は、残すはナスのみ。昨日の夜無性に春菊を食べたくなり、春菊とほうれん草を小さな鉢にまきました。春菊の種は去年自分で採ったもので、無事芽が出るとよいのですが・・・。
今週は、家の玄関を整理して、靴や植物を置くための棚を2つ設置した。春菊、ほうれん草、空豆はここで様子を見ることにします。毎日家を出るときに様子を見られるのがよさそうです。

Spring onions are wonderful to have in the cupboard! I hadn't thought about re-growing the bottoms. Do you put them in soil or water?
I put them one night in water and plant them in soil. Sometimes it doesn't work but mostly!
