Hello hivers and garden lovers!
It's the last week of January as I write this, and almost halfway through winter, according to the calendar. I believe that 5 days from now will be halfway between winter solstice and spring equinox. Of course, where I live, there's still 2 more months of winter before we can start thinking about early spring, unless we actually get an early spring this year. It's not likely, but it could happen.
A couple days ago, we had a sunny day for a change, so I went out to my greenhouse to see if the sun had warmed it up any. It wasn't very warm, but it was above freezing, so I decided to do a bit of clean-up. I had left all the marigold plants in the tomato pots last fall, and it seemed like a good time to take care of that bit of mess.
As you can see, we store the bicycles in the greenhouse for the winter, and, of course, they're in the way of cleaning up the mess.
My hen & chicks plants seem to be surviving the winter so far. They're supposed to be cold tolerant so I leaver them in the greenhouse over the winter.
Here's the winter tank for the pond fish. It's covered with insulation board, which helps to keep the water from freezing, along with a small heat source and a water pump to circulate the water.
You can see our snow cover through the greenhouse windows. It's less than 2 feet deep right now, but there's still a couple months of winter to go, so it will probably get deeper.
Here's the results of removing the dead marigold plants from the big pots.
A tote full of dead plants. There's probably about a million seeds in all those flower pods...
I also finished cleaning up the 2 hemp plants I grew last year.
At this point, I don't have any plans to start anything for spring, it's still too far in the future to be starting plants right now. I usually wait until the beginning of April to start my tomato plants. I could have waited to clean up this mess, but it was a nice day and it gave me an excuse to do something other than just sitting in the house.
That's all I have for this post, thanks for checking it out!
I am always amazed at how the fish get through the winter in there. But every year, they do... I know it's insulated and heated and has a pump, but it's so cold in winter, even in the greenhouse.

I finally saw your greenhouse with no green crops in it. Soon it'll be beautiful again when full of green crops.
