Hello, hivers and garden lovers!
This is my second post about starting my tomato seeds. So far, my luck with the seeds hasn't been too bad. As I said in my last post, I planted 6 seeds each of Amish Paste, Blue Beach, and Amana Orange tomato seeds. I didn't get 100% germination with the seeds, which is to be expected, I suppose.
The Amana Orange seeds were a fresh package, and I got 4 out of the 6 to grow. The Blue Beach were last year's seeds, and all 6 came up, although 3 of them were a couple days slower coming up. The Amish Paste seeds were also from last year, and 5 came up. One was a couple days behind, and another didn't have it's first leaves and died. I replanted another Amish Paste seed a couple of days ago because I want 5 of those plants for my greenhouse, hopefully that one will sprout. If not, I can plant another one, I still have a few of those seeds left.
Of course, I took pictures of the progress, so I'll post a few of them here. This is from 6 days ago, on the 25th, after the first seeds came up. It's a bit hard to see them with the condensation on the clear lid.
This is all of the plants that came up at first. I had them in the sun on the porch on one of our rare sunny spring days.
Here they are, back under the light.
This is from the 27th of April, 4 days ago.
This is from yesterday. They grow a bit every day. Most of the plants are starting to develop their first set of real leaves now.
The next thing I have to do is to start my second batch of tomato seeds. For the next batch, I'll be starting some Black Krim, Better Boy hybrid, and Big Mama hybrid tomato seeds. I was going to start them today, but I fill the starter pots out in the greenhouse, and it was rainy and cold today. That's all the excuse I need to not do it. If I got wet, I might melt, you know...
That's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!

I and my helper friend are trying to grow peppers from our old seed. We've neglected to save fresh seed for several years. I can't save seed as I grow 3 types of peppers too close together. I'm hoping he can save seed this year, providing we can get any to sprout...
Yeah, I don't save tomato seeds for the same reason. They would be cross-pollinated and I don't know what I would get.
I suppose if you had to, you could buy some new pepper seeds.
These all were given to my helper friend. The Hungarian paprika came from someone's grandfather who grew them in Hungary. I'm not sure exactly who gave him the Kapija seed, but it was the best I ever grew. So can't buy these 2...
