Hello everyone, I hope you had a nice weekend. Here it was mostly rest, cooking and diving into my seed archives !
Every now and then I like to go and see what's in my box, and secretly I wonder if the plants have started to germinate and push the cardboard lid off.
As stated in the title of my article, I think that beyond the fruits, vegetables and anything else that can be harvested for free - but not without effort ! - what I really prefer are the seeds, the elements that ensure the reproduction of the species. Continuity without rigidity, slow evolution, in rhythm with the seasons, life and Nature.
Whenever I go for a walk, anywhere, in a park, a garden, at a friend's house, in the countryside or on the street, I keep my eyes open and my gaze alert, always on the alert. And it is very rare that I come back empty-handed.
Sometimes the seeds of the plant I come across are not yet ripe, but that's just a matter of time. And so it's an opportunity for a future walk, which is always good to take !
Another important source of seeds is the vegetables we eat. Squash, butternut, aubergines, tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, lemons... What more could you want ?
Today it was these seeds of Calendula officinalis and Great Nasturtium - Tropaeolum majus - that caught my eye the most, which is normal : they are newer and therefore higher when you open the box.
I know I'm late for the season, but as the window of our flat faces south and I have the impression that the winter will be mild, I'm still trying to see if it will work. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and I figure if I can get even a few flowers, it will be a success !
Below, preparation of the seeds, soil and express sowing, followed by a generous watering...
In the same place, in the now full tank, I rediscover three Gingko Biloba ovules. Yes, they are neither seeds nor fruits, but ovules carried by the female tree.
I had left them there so that they could prepare themselves, dry out a little during the winter before trying to germinate this thousand-year-old tree.
You'll laugh here, but of all our late sown maize plants this summer (about 6 or 7), this is the only ear of corn we were able to recover ! It's a bit ridiculous, but considering my involvement and the lack of watering, I think it's a pretty good performance, don't you ?
Out of the clutter of unclassified seeds, just thrown together during a walk in a botanical garden in Paris. It's a bit less organized than the rest, but I think it's good not to want to conscientize, rationalize and intellectualize everything... In any case, Nature doesn't work like that and I know from experience that it's better to try to imitate it. In all modesty, that goes without saying !
I will not be able to find the references of all these seeds, but would it be useful ? It would probably be best to grow the plants so that I could recognize them afterwards...
In my enthusiasm, I take out my organic growing book and start flipping through it again.
But let's move on to the last part of this article, the preparation of a surprise package for my brother. That's also why I took out my seeds, because I wanted to send him some.
Because seeds are like knowledge and good times, if they are not shared, they are worth almost nothing !
I put red amaranth, hollyhock, nasturtium and calendula seeds in it. I think it's a good set and he will be happy :)
The rest of the package consists of a workman's jacket that no longer fits (after too much drying...) and some books, including the Treaty of the Middle Way that I really wanted him to discover !
So much for this article in the form of a story and a rediscovery of these nourishing seeds, of the body or the soul, all these grains of future potentialities..!
I hope that you will enjoy reading this article and I thank you for your time dedicated to this visit. Do not hesitate to react and to ask me your possible questions !
Have a good week, take care of yourself <3
good post anttn i also do the same thing whenever get the chance to pick some seeds from a forest or on the road or sometimes somebody's fence. collecting seeds and trying them I don't get tired of and the same with vegetables fruits or flowers I carry seeds from Norway to India and USA to Norway .some times it works sometimes not. but I don't give up. have a nice week ahead take care greetings😊
Collecting them, storing and then trying their potentiality, I find all of that fabulous and it’s almost a philosophical practice for me ! I’m happy to know that we share that among other things... but I’m not surprised haha :)
Have a good day dear, I hope you’re doing well 🌟
we are ok. Tired of dark gray short days. I don't mind cold but looking at the sun makes me more energetic.
What is your personal discord anttn? If I come to Paris I will take some seeds for you sure.. 😊 Have a nice day soon weekend coming have some Friday shopping 😊
Yeah, I can imagine that, even here with less light, we’re feeling a bit the same..!
Courage to you :) sure, sun is a great help !

I wish you a pleasant weekend ahead, take good care ☀️
Shopping on the way haha...!

to write there than here. take care don't spend so much hahahaha😂😂ha.
Yes, waiting for spring is maybe wise ! I really like this proverb and way of thinking, concerning the shopping, I've been super economic, almost didn't buy anything haha :)
Have a sweet evening, I hope you're well 🌿
Lovely way to have your seeds storaged!!
I love doing that !
Each box contained dates, that makes a good quantity haha ^^
Wonderful to do that. I used to gather seeds, but as we were planning on moving over the pond, they couldn’t be packed and go along. Now it seems our plans are changing… we will see we’re we end up. Seeds I can always start to gather again.
Wonderful to share them indeed… 😊😎
Your brother will be happy with the package.
Have a great new week my friend!

Hello Anttn 👋❤️, it's been a while, hehehe.
Indeed it is fun planning the seeds but gathering them can be really more fun. I like how you arranged them into the boxes, it makes it beautiful and I'm sure the seeds feel loved when they are cared for that way, hehe.
I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw the ear corn, hehe. But yes, it tried.
Wow, I never knew that seeds can be liked to knowledge but after reading how you explained it, I couldn't agree less.
I'm very sure your brother will be very happy seeing all the things you are sending to him. Nice work friend, this is indeed going to be really fun but hard work, hehe.
Have a beautiful night rest dear.
sorry for the late reply :)Hi dear @hopestylist,
Indeed, for the corncob, there is really something to laugh about ^^
Yes, seeds are really something I'm passionate about, it's really one of the subjects I wouldn't mind learning about!
Thanks for your message ✌️ How are you?
I wish you a good evening 🌿
It's fine @anttn, I'm happy you still responded.
Learning about these things is fun but not easy, I'm happy you enjoy learning about them.
I'm doing fine and you?
You too Anttn 😘🤗.
I'd like to thank you for this amazing post. I haven't heard about seeds of Calendula officinalis and Great Nasturtium - Tropaeolum majuscule before now.
But have learnt a lot through this post now and I hope to learn more from you.
Take care and have a nice weekhey @actordontee :) You’re very welcome ! I’m glad you found this article useful 😊
Thank you so much, wishing you a great month ahead
