Can i just say its been a crappy 12 months. Universe has thrown some frigging dreadful luck out way (and some good stuff i do appreciate that) but its been revolting. We missed the winter garden planting last year due to deaths in the family and then we got totally attacked by the worst year of snails and caterpillars i have ever known.
The rest of the stuff is really awful, but alas i am not allowed to discuss what happened... sigh.. so please do indeed send all commiserations this way and please if you have karma to spare send it into the universe for person X that needs it.
where last year i was giving away cucumber by the box full to the kindy and friends, this year i had to BUY CUCUMBER to feed my kids. that is an embarrassing admission for me. but that is what happened.
Im making a video showing where we are in the garden so VIDEO POST IS INCOMING SOON hopefully, but i feel the need to get back into the swing of posting.
For those of you that don't know, we have a big concrete jungle of a garden in the outter suburbs of Brisbane, Australia. With limited (actually no) garden areas in the ground that we can plant. So all our produce is up in garden beds on concrete and in pots.
THE MESS THAT WAS LAST WEEK
As of last week, it was a mess. The garden beds were barly producing anything except herbs and some FANTASTIC long eggplants. Somehow they thrived this year.
We have spent two days in the garden, (me with help due to the injury) and have done a big clear out. The video shows the mess. But i strangely didn't take photos of the mess. Lucky you!
Here we have the garden beds somewhat cleared out (the back garden is still a revolting weed mass... but thats gonna stay that way for a bit)
above you can see the pool area garden with the pots that mostly survived, though again, no tomato in there due to bugs. The citrus is poorly but alive and pool dormant at this time of year.
Here you can see the WIP back garden bed over run with weeds and bloody YUKKA that we have even drilled into with petrol and raw week killer "but the bitches keep coming back"
The garden beds you can see are in process of being rejuvenated for winter. Frest compost and soil. worm poo from the worm far and some rock minerals and other yummy things.
Here i have taken the old soil out of these and refreshed, however in this spot im getting another big raised garden bed with a lid on wheels. so see how we go with that.
Im going to try and over winter the egg plants... there are still lots of flowers so i might still get another flush of fruit before winter descends.
Her we have the back bed that seems to be ravished everytime i plant. I suspect either rats, possums, or the crows that stalk the fence behind. I am prepared this season to GO TO WAR with these pests and they are not going to take the onions and broccoli that is in these beds. (and the straggling tomato that will come out in a month or so.
Here you can see what we actually planted:
Below is the garden when we moved in - green - but nothing to eat

Nice garden, you have many kinds of vegetables, that really nice, but sadly for tomatoes not grow well. I hope you win 'war' with those pesta☺️👌🏻
Yes, will try tomatos again next year. Normally i get bucket loads of them and give them away. Annoying little munchie crunchie caterpillars
