I thought that I would share this very clever insight that I was fortunate enough to learn during the week. I have titled it ‘The Leaf at the Top’ and I have no idea if this is a well-known idiom or simply an epiphany of a very down-to-earth person.
So, this person is the guy who has helped me turn our overgrown veld (grass and bush) into the parkland it is today. We have been working together for something like ten years and during this time I have learned a lot from him.
Some of it funny, he tells jokes now and again, some of it on a serious note, and some just out-and-out rubbish (in my mind anyway), an example of one such rubbish is that lightning comes out of frogs’ mouths.
Perhaps I judge too quickly as he has a lot of deep observations as well. I was surprised to hear him use a one-liner which left me amazed at his insight. He said, like The Leaf at the Top
We have been fighting with building up our closed community without much assistance from the Council and it is a battle to get anyone to come down to have a look at the problems on the ground.
Our conversation led to including all the problems faced in a country where there does not seem to be recognition or assistance from the hierarchy. He said they sit at the top of the tree and don’t have a clue what’s happening at the bottom, down in the roots of the tree. They only see what they can see from their high perch like the Leaf at the Top.
This is quite an amazing thought as it can be applied to life in general, to families, to work situations, especially to business proposals, and on and on. Perhaps this line of thought might be tailored to fix a lot of struggles in life. Go down and see what’s happening at the roots.
