Do I come to talk about my Christmas in the middle of January? Yes, I just haven't had the time or the mood to write... Even so, I have tried to keep an eye on my plants and in spite of everything, there were some interesting things.
As always bananas have been present, in December we harvested 4 bunches from 3 different plants, so there were a lot of bananas!! hahaha
This one hasn't been harvested yet
Can't miss the tour of my succulents, which have been changing in different ways due to the lighting and rain. Since the season of frequent rains is over, some have resumed their shape and others have suffered a little... soon I will have to be transplanting and decapitating some of them.
And this last one is my pride 😍 It's the first huernia that blooms for me!!! I don't know how I managed it but maybe a combination of too much water for it to develop and then too little water and lower lighting... I just know that the only different thing I did was that I moved them all around, with respect to the one I had before.... Maybe there was something there that made it work. However then I put the rest back where they were previously and left that one where I had them and the other flowers didn't come out 😥 they kinda stunted....
In addition to the flowering huernia, there are 2 other plants that came out well for me for the first time! And it has me very happy. One is the papaya, many times I had tried to grow papaya and it didn't work, the plants didn't grow enough or didn't give fruits, and if they did, they didn't grow or ripen. Until there was one that grew in a compost that I had made right next to an old trunk, during the process of that compost the trunk fell, since the base was extremely deteriorated, so this papaya plant took all those nutrients from the trunk and it used them incredibly. It is the first papaya plant that grows so much and manages to give so much fruit! We have already harvested one, which was the first one that came out and the truth is that its flavor is super delicious!
Lastly my end/beginning of the year surprises: the Ocumo or Taro plants 😁 Perhaps some of you remember that last time this was a failed crop. I had planted them in pots and after several months had passed, when I thought they were ready well... They had nothing!!!! But as I take advantage of everything I left the plants there on the ground to pile up all the pruning waste and that... It turns out that it is a quite noble and resistant plant! they started to sprout again and thanks to the abundant rains, they grew to become bigger plants than I!!! So as it was getting past harvest time I pulled them out and wow! I managed to harvest a few ocumos! It is worth mentioning that all of this was without any intervention on my part, since I didn't even hill them up as I should have, because I didn't have enough soil. What I harvested I gave some to my neighbor and the rest I used for a soup I made on January 1st (It is typical in my country to make a big soup on that day).
It was a lot of hard work, and the harvest wasn't that big. I ended up very tired but also really happy to have come to get some fruits!! or well, tubers haha.
And that is how I received the new year happy and grateful to my land! Oh, and as usual I planted the ocumos again to have more harvest at the end of the year! I am going to propose this year to take up a little more of these activities that I like so much.

hello!! No, sweet potatoes are different. Ocumos have white flesh and it's slippery when you peel it, I don't know if it's known with any other name besides Taro...

Yes! mostly because we grow plants together that neighbor and I, but when I harvest a lot of something I share with others too

Wow! You have a wide area for gardening. You have a lots of bananas, taro and succulents. I have tried taking care of banana as well as planting of taro but I haven't tried planting succulents. I am more to fruits and vegetables which I thought could help us than planting flowers.

thank you so much!! Well I can say that almost everything I plant came by itself... I didn't know succulents until somebody gave me one then I found another, I started investigating and found out about succulent world and we'll, they're kinda easy to grow but getting them to be in the perfect shape, THAT is hard... however, every thing you plant is great!! I have never been able to grow eggplant hehe
