MY first introduction in the miracle of gardening

in HiveGarden2 years ago

I was blessed to be raised in a house with a big garden and a big field right outside my doorstep! Our home was literally at the end of the city, one side of the road (a dirty road that is) had houses and the other one just open fields!

I remember very vividly that garden of my childhood. With roses of many colours along the street, pink, yellow and some dark red that looked like velvet. I remember their amazing scent (not easy to find it any more) and their beautiful stylisation that my grandfather had done. He had pruned them so that they had one trunk, one meter from the ground and then they opened in almost spherical shapes!

I remember the spearmint, on the side of the plot, and our efforts to control its invasive nature :)

I remember the lemon trees, providing fruits all year long, the tangerine trees and the tangerine juices that I was drinking when they were too many to eat, the apricot tree and the most delicious apricots of my life.

I remember the dog chasing the neighbour's chickens when they crossed our fence and the birds singing on the trees.

But most of all I remember the first tree I planted myself and the tremendous pride as I watched it grow! It was a loquat grown from seed and my first introduction in the miracle of gardening!

I think I know what you mean when you say

I remember their amazing scent (not easy to find it any more)

There are scents I remember from my childhood from certain flowers but they don’t smell quite the same today. So much has changed and with that the quality of plants.

These were some nice memories you shared. It’s pretty cool growing up around gardens, you learn and retain so much as a child that you will forever keep with you.

Nice post and photos ~

Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it :)

Flowers have become on more industry, with hybrids that last longer, look more impressive but they have lost all the qualities of the old varieties!

You’re very welcome.

Yes, exactly this and it’s very sad that it’s this way now.

Cool memories of that garden. The roses must have been wonderful!

Yes they were. Imagine that I remember them after so many years!
