RE: Growth and development - G-dog's vegetable garden

in HiveGardenlast year

I do the same. I like to make mine liveable of course, very comfortable, but I weigh up what I'm doing with the understanding I'll not be here forever.

I had a solar array fitted a while back which was great value (free on a government scheme) and spent a great deal of money on replacing a veranda/covered entertaining area a year or so ago also. It needed doing. I spend on maintenance, my garden and all because they're lifestyle things. I really want to do my kitchen up but spending $15,000-$20,000 on it is something I need to weigh up. I'll do something with it but will look for alternatives that will achieve a similar result to a brand new one. Two-pack painting the doors and drawer-facings rather than a brand new kitchen. I had stone benchtops put on a couple years ago so a refresh on the doors should work well. I'd rather do that at a fraction of the cost than replace the whole thing. It's all about economics and logical thought I guess.

I'd love to get solar, but I just can't justify it. It's also hard to find a reputable company around here. There are a ton of fly by night ones that you can never be sure if you can trust. We put a new deck on the house a couple of years ago. That was $10k. We need new windows, a new roof, and a cover for the patio, but they are all so expensive. Oh and my wife started a Reno on the bathroom down that has fallen on me to finish!

Bathroom renovations are often so costly, here anyway. Mine is good but the linen cupboard doors doors will get done with the kitchen renovation when that happens...which is likely to be when summer comes along (Novemberish.)

I guess it comes down to priorities and prioritising what is the most important/valuable thing to do next. Windows, roof and patio...costly.* I guess you'll call in favours for it, as do I.

They are all costly these days! I think windows and roof give us the best resale value, but my wife already started the bathroom, so now I have to finish that!
