On Monday morning, I wasn’t feeling so good, just very off. I got my post up and pulled up the shades to discover this, above. So I would have to sweep and be very careful of the sheets of ice under the snow everywhere.

The birdfeeders were half empty so I filled them while I was out there. We’d gotten about 4” of snow, enough that my brother would have to plow when he got home.

It didn’t take long…

The smokehouse looked cute with its cap of snow.

Birdwatching

Once back inside, I continued down the rabbithole. This is what my sister calls getting lost in the information following a line in genealogy. My “lost” was the determination to finish filing all my back posts.

I had called my neighbor at 8AM when I got back in from sweeping walks and steps to say I was really feeling bad and wouldn’t be going to exercise class. So I finished the post filing a couple minutes before 11AM and checked the e-mail and realized I had to get set up to watch the program Tom had gotten ready for me at 11AM!

It was the Seed to Harvest Summit and the person I most wanted to see was John Kempf.

I had not seen him in several years and wanted to know what was new. Well, a LOT had changed!

Plant Health pyramid crop.jpg

The first thing that had changed drastically was his pyramid. The old one was not nearly as comprehensive as this one.

He spoke about what happens when the plants reach the 4th level, quorum sensing.

“Quorum sensing is a process of cell-to-cell communication that allows bacteria to sense their population density and respond accordingly. This process helps bacteria adapt to environmental changes.”

Rhyzophagy Cycle.jpg

Next he spoke about rhizophagy and the cycle. I’d had a really basic understanding about how this worked, but he explained the intricacies of the system and what it means to plant health and soil health.

He says the old saying of healthy soil will make healthy plants is actually the other way around. Healthy PLANTS will create healthy soil biology which is necessary to grow immunotherapy food, food that will keep humans healthy.

And he spoke about using mulches. I’ve been using brown mulches exclusively (hay, wood chips) and he said that if cover crops aren’t utilized in the system, the soil structure breakdown due to lack of healthy roots.

I’ve always known green mulch was better than brown mulch, but could never figure out how to plant after a cover crop. He said that uncovered dirt that has the sun shining on it, the sun will kill the life down 4” in the soil.

I know people who use cover crops and many tend to cover them with silage tarps to kill the cover crop. The heat from the sun, it seems to me, will also kill the biology under a tarp. I’ve yet to find an answer that would work for me here.

I tried to take notes as he spoke, but between not feeling well and poor handwriting, I didn’t get as much as I hoped. They are supposed to be replaying the various sessions and all the sessions EXCEPT his have been put up. I sure hope they get it up soon.

Too much birdwatching and supervising

I got nothing else done on Monday.

On Tuesday my helper friend arrives at 9:30AM. I need to do laundry, clean the disaster of a kitchen, get a shower, and find enough to keep him busy. I’m not up to doing another session on cleaning the kitchen, but maybe we could tackle cleaning and re-seasoning the cast iron.

Sounds like a lot of great info from the video. I have never used cover crops but know they are very beneficial. I only use leaf mulch to cover the beds. It might be time to do something new. I hope you're feeling stronger today.

It’s a much better day.

I’ve been thinking the same thing, but am stuck on how I can make cover crops work here. From what I’ve seen it’s pretty labor intensive…

I love how everywhere is covered with snow, very attractive.

The snow makes your environment look so good
It’s beautiful

Your cat acts like a baby😅😅
What kind of sleeping position is that😅😅

What a beautiful white color the snow is, it must be difficult to sweep it away, but that does not detract from the fact that it looks like a beautiful white veil that covers the earth ❤️

I hope you get better and can continue doing your activities normally 🙏

Get well soon.

The weekend was rather strange for me in terms of energy too. Sunday was quite wasted without much progress. Monday was a bit slow in the beginning. Then a sense of urgency came over me. Some drastic movements in the sky disrupted the flows of electro magnetic frequencies!

I hope it won’t snow so much. It’s good of you to feed this birds and squirrels.

Oh, I don't feed the squirrels! Not if I can help it! Just the birds.

So, these squirrels can look after themselves very well! Just like squirrels in my garden! They bite all the fruits, including coconut and lemons!! They are so fast at attacking ripening fruits. We have very little chance of finding a perfect mango!

The weather must have really been so cold for you to tolerate

Larry would be so happy to go out and check the birds 😂

And the bobcat would be so happy if he did go outside... Lunch is served...

Do you have them around? Dangerous for every domestic animal

Oh, yes. They have always been here.
