New East garden – the delphinium is still flowering, even with 20F temps…
On Thursday I was up at 4:30AM and got my post up. Then I cleaned up the kitchen, put the laundry away, made a cup of tea and sat for a while. Then I got up at 9:15AM and got ready and went out to start spreading the mulch hay.
I started at this end and ran the hay along the fence line. Then I started tearing apart the leaves I’d piled here on Saturday and putting them around the kale.
My helper arrived at 9:30AM and he started at the far end filling that in. Once I had the kale row finished, I worked with him. We used up the hay delivered yesterday afternoon and started on the other pile. We had 19 bales left when we finished. We’ll use some of those to cover the area the piles sit on. The rest are for the New Herb garden.
The mulch hay guy had hit the fence yesterday so my helper friend and I repaired it before heading inside out of the wind and cold.
So 2 out of 3 gardens are done, except doing the tarps on the Small garden.
I made some lunch and my brother came home. We took my car into the mechanic’s to have it checked for winter. I was completely exhausted by the time I got back and just sat the rest of the afternoon.
The temps are to drop into the mid 20’s Tuesday night so I got both stoves going well.
On Wednesday I am not going anywhere, so I’m hoping I can get all the windows on the 2nd floor washed. I can do 6 of the 7 by myself. That will leave 1 window and 3 doors to do.
The garden seems pretty much ready for winter
We still have the New Herb to clean out and mulch and all the flowerbeds.
That’s a lot of work
Well done
Your garden looks good and well arranged
Good job!
a busy day all round.
we are preping for storm season here. mulch is to protect from heat :-)
Happy gardening to you
BLINGIT
The delphinium is looking so beautiful
Also, I hope your car has been properly examined for the winter?
It’s being done now.
You are working hard. Good luck.
2 over 3 is a pass mark so getting two gardens done out of three is really a job well done.
What a load of work you did at the garden, the mulching and all. And you did it very well. It's a good thing you had your helper friend help you with the work, it was certainly a productive day for you. Thanks for writing.
